So nostalgic with Rivermaya and Erik Santos… 2000s music was like the battle of pinoy rock bands and soloists who won music competitions… those were the times where Internet was not easily accessible, and we only rely on radio and tv shows to play these music and we buy “song hits” which contain the lyrics and chords of these songs 🤭🤭🤭

I went on an extended holiday to the Philippines and when my funds dried up from the posh clubbing, I ended up going to bars with live bands instead and immediately regretted all the money and time wasted when I could have just done that from the get go and been so much more fulfilled. Its true what they say about Filipino session musicians - they can go toe to toe with the top bands and then some. They've made a sport of playing any song request: anything anytime anywhere.

OMG Hurrairra! The Philippines are packed with so many cafes/bars that play these types of music ALL the time. The crowd just sits and listens and are so chill. Not the screaming and noisy crowds. I miss my college days bc of the bars I frequented with like minded friends. FYI: Eric Santos was the grand champion in Tawag ng Tanghalan( call of the stage in English). Interesting story too. Worked endlessly to support his family.Took a sabbatical when his mother fell ill and took care of her till she passed. At the funeral, he sang an extremely touching song at her open casket! Everyone was crying!!!

Rico Blanco (Rivermaya vocalist) has been supportive of sb19 lately. Been seeing his comments in sb's instagram posts about their recent releases. Rivermaya has had 2 lead vocalists during their peak as far as I can remember (Bamboo and Rico Blanco). Rico is their songwriter and he took over after Bamboo left. Love them both. Both have iconic voices. Rivermaya is definitely one of my favorite bands from the Philippines. (Kisapmata, Ulan, Elesi, Himala are some of my favorite songs)

AAAAANNNNDD you have stumbled upon my other FAVOURITE BAND OF ALL TIME RIVERMAYA . Sadly they have disbanded but have gotten back together for a reunion concert this year ( Pablo attended as a fanboy and just one of the crowd during that epic concert) !!!This is my growing up years . Soundtrack of my highschool life . I love love LOVE RIVERMAYA . The original members with Bamboo Manalac, Rico Blanco , Mark Escueta, Nathan Azarcon and Perf de Castro .... that maiden album of theirs IS IMMORTAL with songs like 214 , Himala, Kisapmata , Elesi , Awit Ng Kabataan - all of the songs in that album! oh how i got so hyped seeing Rico again ( him in this video - he is like Pablo -singer and song writer)! I did not expect this at all :) I just become so busy with our boys of SB19 lately , voting and streaming etc hahaha . nice one Hurraira thank you ! Rico Blanco has written a few of the most memorable songs of our generation . Bamboo is one of the most unique voices ever . No one sounds like him quite literally . Just remembered. Myx started as a channel back when MTV and Channel V were THE THING. And their brand differentiation strategy to capture the music loving Filipinos? Flash the lyrics on the official music videos, videoke style. This was when YT or subtitles weren’t anything yet. So imagine MTV but Filipino-coded 😅 I thought to share to give you another picture of what music means to the people. As a teen we would have Myx on while getting ready for school, at mealtimes, when hanging out with friends after classes, parties, etc. 😊

A couple of other suggestions: Forevermore by Side A is another classic song sb19 sort of covered in one of their games that you already reacted to. Southborder is an R&B group that had big hits (they've had different vocalists overtime i think). One of their members have worked with sb19 particularly in Mapa. If you feel like a ballad, lani misalucha's "bukas na lang kita mamahalin" (i will just love you tomorrow) is another classic

@msl8blo0m3r46 ай бұрын
Just sharing some trivia. Erik Santos was a product of a singing competition in 2003. If I remember correctly, he was eliminated early on but they created a wild card round coz I think they needed one more finalist to compete and Erik won that round. To be completely honest, the original finalists were beasts and you would think Erik wouldn't hold a candle against them, like each of them could've easily been the winner and with different voice ranges as well (my fave was a girl named Marinel Santos whose voice was just pure magic for me). But it ended up Erik being toe toe-to-toe with the consistent top performer Sheryn Regis whose voice was so good she was dubbed as Crystal Voice of Asia (I could picture Stell as the male version of Sheryn, just my opinion). And her performance was really so strong that she was expected to win it all. But then, here comes Erik Santos with his performance of THIS IS THE MOMENT (by Martin Nievera) and stole the show because of the way he delivered the song which was full of emotion. So he eventually won the whole show. Imagine being a wild card to being the champion.

Thyro (and Yumi) songs: Ngayon at Kailanman (Thyro covering an OPM classic with an R&B / jazzy spin) Profession (this is in English) Litrato Tama o mali Songs he's written for others: Duyan - Sarah Geronimo (check out the performance video, Thyro plays the piano there) Tala - another Sarah G song you could check out Hanap Hanap - James Reid and Nadine Lustre Dati - Sam Concepcion and Tippy Dos Santos And I just realized, SB19's Ikako, Nyebe was co-produced by Thyro, and he helped mix and master La Luna and Bulan! So maybe it's just a matter of time before another collab?
