Opossums live in the wild for 6 to 8 years. They move a lot & eat only food that benefits but if they become a pet of a hmans who feed them as much as they have, the poor animal become fat & their internal organs covered in fat can't function, & pets dies before they are 2 yaers old. People don't make them pets, let them live long & enjoy freedom as much as they deserve.

Urban opossums have a higher chance of getting hit by a car or mauled by a domestic dog though. People are not that nice to wild creatures.

It looks like its tail is injured so it may be more defensive since its in pain. Frostbite, fighjts with other animals and potentially tail getting stuck on things makes that happen

Opossums pose no danger to humans or other animals - so, it really was not necessary to remove him to another location.

I was thinking this too. I'm grateful that this person was mostly gentle with the opossum (though, they probably should've used both hands, as holding the opossum by its neck with one hand could be painful, and there doesnt have to be more unnecessary stress for the animal) im also glad the person who called to get the opossum removed didnt call an exterminator to kill them, but rather a wildlife relocator, but on the other hand still think relocating opossums is rather unnecessary, and causes unnecessary stress for the animal. I hope people stop bothering animals unless they pose a realistic threat, which most opossums do not, in fact they get rid of other animals and insects more likely to be pests.

Thank you for relocating the female opossum. That's not the best way to grab one even if it's wild and angry. If you can approach it and can grab the base of the tail, near their butt, and place your hand under their chest and they will stop squirming around. They are also less inclined to bite, when you use this method. To remove them from a cage or trap, all you have to do is blow on them and they will move away.

yep, thousands of them ticks get removed from your surroundings by them opossums every year. if only for that they should be protected as the ticks pose a greater danger to humans, propagating diseases like Lyme, in the long term than sharks or alligators do. 😽👌

@@AnastasiaBeaverhousn We did. We found an injured opossum in the garage. We nursed him but he couldn’t be released so we illegally adopted him. In less than a month he was licking our faces while we (tried) to sleep. He picked up on the little box right away and slept in our bed with us. The only thing keeping people from enjoying opossums as pets is a stupid law.

Relocation is not a kind thing. The opossums, raccoons and especially skunks (I adore skunks and they love me) are welcome in our yard because it’s their yard too.

@Make Racists Afraid Again The survival rate on relocated opossums is much higher. They are opportunistic omnivores so they can eat most anything. They are also very opportunistic when it comes to shelter locations. There a lot of variation in the survival rates when you look at it by specoes. But you are right, many other animals do not relocate well at all, particularly squirrels.

They are tho, an opossum couldn't hurt you even if they tried and they never try. Absolutely harmless animal and very beneficial for everyone, they eat tons of pests like ticks and other parasites and don't carry diseases like rabies because their body temperature is too low to host them. There is literally no reason to kick them out, they are wonderful harmless animals that make great pets, the only shame is that they have such short lives.

hearing the guy baby talk this thing then he turns around and looks like he has full sleeve tattoos. its like a double dont judge a book by its cover. lash house i lived at we had a possum that would raid our trash. so i let it. we just scared eachother when i went to throw something out and he was eating a nice mean i guess. the can was safety to the little guy and it was cold we just made sure to get him out if it was trash day and give him stuff to climb out when the can was empty. they dont live long but we had possum in the trash for over 2 years. it was 2-3 generations of this guys family. fine by me. keeps the worse things away cant make you sick very important to healthy ecosystem and it wasnt some damn cats in my trash or a dog.
