I liked Miriam in the game even for how short her story was. When Miriam card was revealed, I was happy thinking I could finally get a trainer full art at a reasonable price since she was a very minor character. I though Penny would be the more expensive card since she is part of the main story. I have some of the trainer cards you listed. It's great that those are still affordable.

Totally agree, I planned on buying a box of Scarlet Ex and Violet EX but lost all interest due to the prices. I've said the same stuff people before about it not only being about waifu cards because as you just showed It's not all of them. I've said many times "how come this one isn't super expensive than?" It feels like any part of the hobby that gets even a small spotlight on it gets ruined because of that spotlight.

I think if you want a card that is also (probably) affordable, has the same quality as Japanese cards, and you can still read like idk, 10 - 20% of the move names and still uses regular alphabetical letters, then i would suggest Indonesian cards, though i guess they are slightly harder to obtain.

I got my first box of Japanese cards this week! It was between $50-$80 if I convert it to USD but it’s the Dark Phantasma set from last year - Haven’t opened them yet but I’m super excited to see all the cute pokemon with silver borders ^__^

Also pretty crazy how some Japanese trainer's are extremely under priced, which is a pretty good thing for collectors don't get me wrong. Does hurt a bit seeing Candice go down in price a bit though lol. SHE DESERVES TO BE MORE! Also I have two copies so yea idk. I like having expensive cards and everything but only when I pull em. Idk if I'll ever sell my trainers or not just cool to have. This is definitely pretty weird in a TCG. One take away is that because of this video now I'll never buy a scarlet and violet booster box or any holiday set/booster box for more than it's MSRP. Great video! Your channel should be required watching for anyone in Pokémon. I love collecting with my daughter but I hate a lot of what is going on. So many of the biggest content creators are shamelessly in it for the $$. They know how to read the name of the card and which ones are worth the big bucks. But the less expensive cards are skipped over and out it in Japanese and they are totally lost. We are not able to open a lot these days. We were opening Japanese cards because they were more affordable and we liked them more before it became cool. The cards you showed are all awesome cards. I would love to have any of them in our collection, and we do have a few. Welder is one I have to get. Soon. I have loved that one since I first saw it. That was part of my job description many years ago lol. I keep putting it off. We are patiently waiting until people get bored and eventually move on to the next big thing. I’m so glad that there are other people who feel the same as we do about what is happening. Thanks for being the honest reality check in Pokémon. Like what you mentioned, incentive of content creators to make content, box prices, I’d also throw in there those playing in the realm of “market analysis” for shiny cardboard… you don’t have access to sales of the largest markets for cards ( Asia ), comparing it to US sales doesn’t make any sense.

These Japanese trainer card prices though have me very iffy. Only because while they always had a solid pricing in the hundreds, I only recently noticed those same ones hitting over a thousand now. I even noticed recently in the last couple months my Tag Team All Stars booster box just jumped up from $200-250 to $300-350 when prior, the box sat at 200-ish for a long time and it has some of those sought after Japanese trainer cards. I guess all I am saying is that the even bgiger spike some of them have received lately does not seem like it can last, but by no means will they drop to the ground if the price bubble pops. Probably drops but will still sit higher than they were months to years prior.

I’ve been looking at Pokémon cards in other languages. Not to sell but more to collect and be in more pools of cards. Hardest thing to do is find a reputable seller. Wish I could stick with Japanese…was cheap when I was stationed in Hawaii to find and unfortunately it’s no longer the less expensive alternative now.

yeah I'm done with Japanese sets for awhile till everything dies out again... especially with the problems with the EX boxes. Well I'm glade the English sets are dropping for the most part and they'll continue dropping like crown zenith. I think we need to admit that we are maybe somewhat to blame for the spike in JP prices. Japan doesn’t print more than what they feel is required for their own domestic market. JP product isn’t intended for sale outside of Japan. For awhile Now there has been a booming demand for JP product in the US, and other countries. People use proxies or shipping companies to order TONS of JP sets. This creates a short in supply in The Japanese market. Which in turn causes the higher chase cards to increase in price because it is either harder to find boxes, or they are often raised in price by some sellers. Of course I’ve not done extensive research on this topic in sometime. Might make a video of my own covering this point

I remember buying my Rosa JP Full Art in Osaka yeaarrrrrsss back because it was cheaper than the English alternative (if I am remembering correctly). Got it for like 7 or 9k yen? Whats strange about the timing of Jakes video is the day before the youtube channel TheFlexGods made a video about how they collect waifu cards because they’re so cheap. Pokemon Japan is run differently than US counterpart, they do not overprint, know how to manage market demand.

Consider even the least popular sets are never available at below MSRP on secondary market, like happens with US market, and have never collapsed in price like many US sets/ETBs had, this pricing reality supports the idea there is no overprinting occurring in Japan, like it occurs in the English version. A simple look at pricing shows what you suggest is NOT the case with Jpoke cards. What you suggest is/has been exactly displayed with the pricing when it comes to English poke.

@@OpossumBud Before I respond to the 3 other you mentioned, will point out something on this box, that will apply to the above boxes as well. MRSP with tax on this box is 5560 yen. Now if you bought any boxes when they were at $30, go check what the actual yen price was. What you are forgetting, not aware of, or lack the financial acumen to understand, is the FLUCUATION in exchange rate, and the strength of the US dollar, when you saw rate in the 150 to 1 area. We were recently at 125 to 1. When this is taken into account, and you view it in YEN pricing, you will see that you could not find this product actively at below MSRP. Were there a handful of sales where they did, for sure, I grabbed some, but they were few and far between, not the market price at the time. PS> bigdawg was importing Japanese pokemon cards in 1998 and selling them on ebay and other sites. 🤑

A really good video. I do agree on this 100%. You showed us in your last video you showed us what the prices were before the hype and I was happy to get at least some of those cheap (sightseer and Erikas hospitality from Tag all stars). So I do remember those cheap prices for Waifu cards and that those prices right now are resultung from the Hype and not the "waifu tax". I really hoped that when Miriam would get a FA that she could be a cheap card because she was a side character, but well they chose to hype her and the alt art and those prices are really heavy. I can only hope that maybe when Iono comes out they will focus on her and the prices for miriam and the alt may drop but even then it will affect iono and her FA and probably her ALt art version which is annoying for everybody else. I really think that those prices will get even sillier when iono AND when nemona comes out in japan with their FA and Their alt arts. Wouldnt suprise me if the alt arts are chilling right from the start at 1000$ dollars....well at least I can collect those FA cards in my native language (German) to get it cheap. Most of them are pretty cheap compared to the japanese one. I mean even with all this BS there are still some beautiful Waifu cards that are kinda cheap to get. I did enjoy opening Japanese sets, and now it's just too expensive. I got a box each of Scarlet and Violet, and that's been it. Never really even looked into the value of the cards either. I just enjoyed them

All It takes is like you mentioned some big-name content creators to make a certain card or certain sets be the next big thing. I enjoy making content due to it's a outlet for me. I could careless about getting money from my videos. If at some point I ever did it would go towards the community of Funko and Pokemon which are my main enjoyment to create content on.

Yeah, it's definitely all hype, imo. I avoid the hype like the plague as much as possible. It's kind of a double edged sword, while some cards go stupid and makes them unobtainable to me, so many other cards fly under the radar for pennies to the dollar and then I can snipe the heck outta those at least.

Just picked up Bosses Orders from rebel clash. One of the best FA trainers imho. No waifu but 🤷‍♂️ , it’s definitely the best card in that set
