I completely agree with your review. Nolan peaked with The Dark Knight and Inception in my opinion and ever since his films have been over hyped, full of themselves and sometimes convoluted. There also seems to be a lot of Nolan fan boys who think every film he makes is the best film ever and anyone who doesn't like his films must have low IQ and isn't smart enough to appreciate his movies.

Personally, I wasn't that keen on Inception. An alright movie but nowhere near as good as The Dark Knight. Or Memento. Interstellar put me off of him as a director permanently. It's an execrable film. So up it's own arse and sickeningly schmaltzy. A 2001 wannabe for overly sentimental idiots. Thing is I really, really liked The Dark Knight. It's my favourite comic book movie along with Watchmen and The Winter Soldier. I just don't get how the same director can make that and then go on to make Interstellar. Haven't watched any of his films since. I would watch em if I came across em so I haven't got to the stage where I am actively boycotting his films but I just have no interest in finding out whether or not his subsequent films are any good.

Nolan is not even a great director. Never was and never will be. I don't see what's so special about him. A visual master, yes. No doubt about that. But a storyteller? Not in the slightest. He hasn't done one single story that is in remotely intelligent enough to not insult me as a human being. He is a gimmick and makes gimmicky movies.
@interestedparty7523 Жыл бұрын
@@Leprutz People, unfortunately, don't connect the word "Storyteller" with Director. They get all artsy and say "Visionary" which is way too arbitrary.

Quite honestly, I believe nobody needs Christopher Nolan. For me one of the the most overrated directors of all time, if not the most overrated one in fact.

I agree with you. I would also say the same about Paul Thomas Anderson and Wes Anderson. I just don't get the hype.

I saw this movie today. I agree with you, though l thought the movie's music was almost comedic when overdone. I agree wholeheartedly that the explosions looked underwhelming and the fact that you don't see the victims takes away any emotional depth. I also agree this could have been a 2 hour movie, and it's quite possible the hype will die down rather quickly.
@chrisburton4128 Жыл бұрын
Totally agree with the music being overdone, it becomes repetitive and boring, and the tension is lost. Made me thing of Revolver by Guy Ritchie, although it's nowhere near as bad as that film.

Truthfully, for all the hype, the nuclear blast was less impressive than what James Cameron put together for Terminator 2 more than 30 years ago.

Yup. pretty on point. I'm starting to be fed up with this trend of having 3h long movies. If the movie doesn't absolutely requires it, then don't. It is a pretty forgettable movie overall.

Agreed, this was too long and boring. Once Upon a Time in Hollywood... this is not.

I think you've been generous. Yes, it's forgettable, but in the way a 5/10 is forgettable.

I can't stand Nolan. He is being seen like a god and he is not even nearly as good a director as Uwe Boll.

Great review. I'm a Nolan fan but this film was a let down and the hype is unwarranted

I agree. The film was way too long and disjointed. 45 mins could easily have been shaved off.

Agreed, my favorite Nolan movie is The Prestige. Post 2010s his movies have been a meme of himself, overrated, over-convoluted, and he just tries to do too much. Interstellar didn't make much sense and was very self-indulging but it was still good as a visual treat. Dunkirk was actually nice but when you think about it there have been much much better WW2 movies. TDKR, Tenet, and now Oppenheimer have been straight up crap. I really have no idea why Oppenheimer, which is a biopic drama (and not say an action or a scifi flick) needed the non-linear plot and flashy fast editing, which makes it difficult to not only follow the story but also savor parts of the story and dialogue. It could have benefitted much more from a linear narrative and slower pacing and a greater focus on fewer characters. I can understand that Interstellar needs to be gimmicky since it's scifi fantasy, but why does Oppenheimer need to be that way. I think this is where Nolan falls short as a director, especially compared to someone like Scorsese. Nolan is trying to make different movies of different genres, but he is still making in the same 'factory'. Scorsese movies of different genres do actually feel different and aptly made for the particular genre (think Hugo, WOWS, Goodfellas, Silence, The Color of Money, etc etc). I really hope Nolan notices this and tries a linear and slow editing style of movie making.

Totally agree with you! That's why I refuse to see anymore of his films. He was truly having a laugh with Tenet, making it so hard to hear so that his fanboys would make multiple visits to see it. That he made the sound so awful on purpose for that reason, I will never forgive, so will never see another of his shite films again in the cinema.

For me the only good thing about the the movie was Robert Downey Jr. His charisma was enough to bring at least some enjoyment for me. But that being said, the rest of the movie was just so boring and dull for me. Remember this is just my opinion and if you liked the movie good for you 👍.

Before you see this movie you need to see this movie. And that's not a good thing. Too much cutting between different time periods and events - from the school of "if it isn't confusing it isn't art". The bomb was big a disappointment - FFS - this a NUCLEAR explosion - where is the menacing mushroom cloud on the horizon? Obviously this was a small petrol explosion filmed close up. Oh - and the nudity was pointless - it seemed the object was just to shock the audience. In summary, 3 hours of non-linear, pretentious twaddle.

I refuse to fork out any more of my money to see another Christopher Nolan film after the disaster that Tenet was. I only sat through that film because I had been dying to go to the cinema since the lockdowns, otherwise I would have walked out. I find most of his films hugely overrated, the worst of all being Tenet of course. His fanboys are in denial about him though, which makes me laugh. Anyway, just discovered your channel and have subscribed. 👍

Sound design is good, Murphy is well cast, but the movie is simply between decent and good, not good, not excellent. Oppenheimer is a figure not everyone knows about, but if you studied or know history, you know who he is and the Manhattan Projects mandate/setup. In this sense, everyone is patting themselves on the back for watching an “Intellectual” movie about a more obscure man, when really, it’s an above average, long biopic about a guy most reasonably educated people know about.
@chrisherber1635 Жыл бұрын
Pretty much agree with everything you said except one thing. I wouldn’t consider it slower paced. It was actually really fast, but fast paced dialogue. Like in much of Nolan’s films, it feels like a lot of exposition.

ngl i kind of disagree with u saying that this movie is overrated. Its like saying the dark knight is overrated which it is not. The dark knight and Oppenheimer are in the top 3 best Christopher Nolan films. The score is great, the performances are great, cillian murphy is the stand out. Robert downey jr of course does a great job. The effects are beautiful. Its honestly a beautiful movie. 10/10
