22:05 - the reason, why I am alive. I remember the February 2020, when I had the worst nightmare, which lead me to complete sadness and early lockdown. After the early lockdown - suicidal thoughts. I didn't knew what to do next, because I was living in constant fear and unawareness. I just turned 19, and I could lose my freedom. But that didn't happen. Fortunately. Actually, it al began at the end of January, on my 19th birthday. One of the friends, who was there gave me the 2007 CD with that amazing symphony. It was a 1962 recording with Berliner Philharmoniker. At first, I thought that it would be on my shelves, and it would not be played, but then February begins. That brought me to the beginning of this scariest nightmare of all time. At first, I wasn't aware what to do and how, but at some point, I noticed that CD on my work table. When I put that CD in my Compact Disc Player, I started to feel more confident. And when "Adagio Assai" began to bang in my ears, I felt that kind of power, that was in all Beethoven symphonies. If I had a weaker heart and didn't have a goal in life, that suicide would have been happened. But I am grateful to Mr. Karajan for saving my life in times that awful. God only knows, what would have happened after the suicide. Now it's a middle of July, and I am OK. I am waiting for this vinyl to arrive and I would continue listening to this masterpiece over and over. Thank you for your patience. UPD: 17/12/2020. Today is Beethoven’s 250th birthday. I feel the best now. I feel incredible. Cause I have nothing to worry about. Vinyl records are at home, my exam session is almost over, but I still spin those records, which I have on my shelves and feel at the ultimate level of confidence in myself. Happy New Year!

Welcome to the world of Beethoven. He saves us all. We are all indebted to him. He will take you from the abyss and raise to the ultimate heights that humans can ever achieve. You are blessed that you have discovered Beethoven I discovered him around your age, and it is by far one of the most important moments of my life. I recommend Romain Rolland's book on Beethoven. You are a lucky man my friend, we all are...He is the endless spring of greatness, majesty, and life, the miracle embodied.

LudwigvanUnited that’s true. Now the vinyl records are on my shelves, and when I feel sad I listen to them regularly. It’s the middle of September, and in 2 weeks I will be working on my diploma. I know, that it will be OK, and I will listen to his other symphonies to feel much better. :)

Hey, that comment is very interesting because it seems to be something that happens with classical music. It reaches your deepest emotions and can quite literally save you from death. I highly recommend a composer called Gustav Mahler. His symphonies are very long but very very rewarding. If you don't wanna listen to the full symphonies I recommend Symphony No. 2 last movement, Symphony No. 3 last movement, Symphony No. 5 fourth movement, Symphony No. 9 first and last movement. These are extremely emotional and bittersweet. They helped me tremendously.

and this is why: Let's see how many climaxes does the SECOND MOVEMENT ALONE provide us, and why it is by far the greatest music EVER written: 14:48 - The deep strings opening up the second movement, unparalleled beginning for a second movement; but then: 20:00 to 20:25 21:25 22:04 - false dawn and then, bang, the greatest moment of musical history: 22:33 ...building up to 23:47 and there, it begins, and so sit back and ENJOY wow...but, we are not done of course, since this is Ludwig van, and he won't be Ludwig van without MULTIPLE climaxes - wait, still: HOW ON EARTH DID HE PULL OFF 23:16 as yet ANOTHER CLIMAX MOMENT? and, still, 23:27 ... almighty have mercy on us... more and more: false dawn: 25:01 ... only to be followed by another climax: 25:20 merciless rise into the greatest heights of a human soul only to bring it into the most unimaginable and godly tune at 26:00 that continues with a theme that sounds like tears coming down from a human soul at 26:17 ... wow, Ludwig, all of humanity indebted to you for these greatest minutes of music. 26:48 ... are you kidding me?? are you kidding me?? 27:36 ... 27:52 ... 28:28 the symphony is exploding in tears and how does it end this movement, wow: 28:55 ...can it be any gentler? can it be more emotional? yes, at 28:48 And we wonder why Ludwig van is the GREATEST and DEEPEST and MOST PERSONAL and PRIVATE THEN, 30:56 , the ending, wow. I LOVE LUDWIG VAN. So you see how many climaxes?? How many suprahuman themes? In fact, no need to point out where in the second movement you should listen, but just listen to it all....

I have a collection of Karajans cds, but today I stumbled on this set of all 9, 1963 DG at the resale store! Whoever bought the set never opened it. Their loss, my treasure for $7. Listening Karajan conducting at that time, brings me to believe, he was better, more sensitive, more agile, as conductor. No over- emphasizing, over-powering percussions. I guess, he didn’t believe he was God, yet. 😄

When I started feeling better I ordered German LPs with symphonies 3 and 5, in this performance. By the way, they were pressed in February 1963, and they still sound amazing. the second movement is the greatest piece of musical composition of all time. Can't believe how he manages to make music sound like and feel like genuine tears falling down a tormented soul's cheeks. From the 5th symphony theme to the THREE CLIMAXES, yes, THREE CLIMAXES, only the Lord can tell how was this composed, this second movement...

Karajan has always seemed to be an enigma to me. Superb technical control, beauty of sound, consistency in approach, he has it all. But in the end what do his interpretations actually mean? Klemperer, Furtwangler and others told us what Beethoven was really trying to communicate.
