Gameplay review where my opponent immediately opens with -3 to all cards. The table is boardgamearena... if you want to see the replay for yourself.

Would be really nice to see some replays vs stronger players, that guy had a relatively good start and a strong corp, but drafted very poorly

Next one will be vs one of the top players in the world. I've played against plenty of strong opponents, but the games weren't interesting enough to recap in my opinion. This next one was finally a really interesting one.

Love the replays, ill ask a couple 1off questions as the vid progresses: Opener, why isnt space station efficient enough? We wont find 4 more playable space cards worth investing a point into? I see a usual plan in your games to accumulate cards towards planner, but it very regularly also ends up towards a draw engine. Is this the dominant tendency in 2p games? As a followup to this question, does knowing there isnt a chance of global discounts (having all been taken) ever dissuade this strategy? At least some of my strategic questions come from a strong 4p preference, where theres far less time to develop engines, but it seems like i see successful players setting up to have double digit cards in hand generation after generation until the end of the game. Does it not seem inefficient to endgame with like, 30 mc worth of unplayed cards? (Thought there would be more card-choice-kinda questions, but it went quick and got strategic instead!) Thanks again, great to see more tfm vids 👨‍🚀

Space station isn't a card I usually want to start with because of opportunity cost. So for example, let's say I want to play NRA. That gives me 3MC prod and 4 plant prod once I have 3 plant tags. Usually, it's most of a gen to play it. Space station is effectively 11MC cost to buy and play it. That 11MC can often delay playing NRA by 1 Gen which is a very large opportunity cost. Therefore, I usually skip space station with a hand like this. I don't think I take planner that often in my games, though I certainly do claim it when it makes sense. Draw helps in giving you the ability to play a longer game and find premium cards. If you already have good game control and premium cards, the draw is less important. In general, I don't think you can ever plan on finding global discounts. If you already have those discounts, then you can go more aggressive on card draw. For your last question, if I'm randomly getting cards from Restricted area or dev center or AI central, then me having extra cards in hand at the end of the game isn't necessarily representative of overbuying. But I do agree that in general, if you're buying a whole bunch of cards and then wind up not playing them, then it's a strategic mistake on your part to not properly manage development and future point scoring. In general, I think it makes sense to have late game threats on hand if you can't end the game, but be willing to sell them if you see a way to end and win.

Shouldn't your opponent have just passed in the first gen instead of playing Earth Catapult and Research Outpost? Why should they let you know that they have -3 global discounts, while they're not doing much with that? The only thing they achieved during gen was to place a city, which is arguably not particularly urgent. By playing these cards, they make you VERY cautious on passing them any card draw or science tags...

Yeah, he probably should have passed. You could always find Earth office, mars U, etc. But that also wouldn't have made for a good title, so I'm glad he did. :)

21:38 You played greenary next to your opponent's city and commercial district next to no city.

Because greenary can't be placed there. Got it.
