Something I realized while working on this track was how much of a departure it was from all the other prior town themes in the series that precede it. In FF 1 - 6, the town themes were all very peaceful and charming (with the exception of Zozo in FF 6). In a subtle way, this track foreshadowed how different FF 7 would be from it's predecessors. In addition it's gritty, vibe perfectly captures the mood of the slums. I immediately thought of bands like Steel Pulse when I started playing around with ideas but as I the track evolved, it came more and more to remind me of The Police (probably because the bass and drums are really the focus of the song). With that in mind, I tried to lean into that vibe, and used some production techniques I hear in their music (like using delays and panning on overdubbed drum parts, as an example).

This is so so good. This would have been perfect in Remake when you get to wall market instead of the song they replaced it with. Seriously this is close to perfect.

Thanks, Bread. It was a lot of fun getting into this zone and I put a lot of work into all the finer details, so I'm very happy to hear that you dug it.

Agreed, the chorus effects on the clean guitar too, it's beautiful, dreamy, ethereal... It's something I can chill to whilst doing household tasks 😂❤

A fantastic tribute to Uematsu. I'd imagine he wanted it to sound something like this.
