Prof.Anderson, you are so accomodating with homework and chapter review deadlines. I always had mine done ahead of time, but offering flexibility is a very generous gesture.The beauty of your explanations is your ability to break down the topic discussed in a way that enables all levels of skill set and knowledge to appreciate the concepts, through visual and auditory gestures, and you make it fun along the way.You keep it real.I wish you were my physics prof. Thank You sir 👍

Thank you. But to clarify, in the relaxed state, a farsighted eye will not see clear at distance or near. Whereas the far point of the myopic eye is somewhere in front of the cornea. Ophthalmologically we say that the far point of the hypermetropic eye is "beyond infinity". Though that may not make sense from a physics perspective, practically that means that without some refractive correction (accomodation, glasses, etc) the farsighted eye does not even see clear at distance, much less at near.
@yoprofmatt
@yoprofmatt 7 жыл бұрын
Yes, good clarification. I suspect you are an ophthalmologist? Cheers, Dr. A
@benjaminmathew2

Yes for these reasons (the farsighted eye can not even see far in the relaxed state but practically can sometimes see both near and far with accommodation), I avoid the overly simplified "farsightedness means being able to see far" concept when talking to people. btw drawing on the clear board makes for very nice visuals. I am amazed how well you can draw and write backwards!

@PinchePuercaVato
@PinchePuercaVato Жыл бұрын
The image is mirrored in post production to flip everything horizontally. Notice he looks like he writes left-handed? I'm willing to bet hes right-handed and you just reverse the image. The camera captures everything written backwards, after the flip it's all back to normal.

Just like our eyes, the camera has a certain refresh rate. It may capture the individual flashes better than what a human could in person. That's just my educated guess.

Nice lecture, but your comment at 5 minutes regarding determining farsightness by not being able to see things when held close (without glasses) is not entirely correct. In practice, you need to also take into account their ability to accomodate (which typically, though not always, represents the age of the patient). A younger hypermetropic person with sufficient accomodative amplitude will see fine at distance and near. It is only when hypermetropic people are older and unable to accomodate (or have to overcome a large baseline refractive error) that the farsighted patient will not be able to read up close.
@yoprofmatt
@yoprofmatt 7 жыл бұрын
Benjamin, Excellent point, thank you. In this example I was referring to the relaxed eye, thus looking at the behavior of the focusing lenses (primarily the cornea) without accommodation by the crystalline lens. But you are absolutely correct that a (typically young) person will have the ability to change the focus of their crystalline lens enough to see clearly both near and far. Thanks for commenting. Cheers, Dr. A (Laughing because I'm wearing my "old-man" progressive glasses as I type this.)
