YES to more tutorials! Yay! 😃 My tips that have aided my length retention, though I'm early in the game (3.5 yrs natural, 15/16 inches, fine 4a,b and mostly c hair, normal to high porosity) 1- Medium twists in a tucked under ponytail style or twisted in a bun (Use silk woogies only) 2- Retwist every week 3- Wipe scalp with cloth using a diluted acv and distilled water solution when retwisting each week🎉 4- I use a mix of Sulphur 8, Top Brass, peppermint, lavender and rosemary essential oils on my scalp when retwisting. 5- Water, leave in, grease in that order on hair length when retwisting 6- spritz scalp with herbal tea water blend every 2 nights, mist hands and smooth it down twists as well, add extra leave in and grease on ends. 7- Prepoo with deep conditioner and olive oil, spritzing first with herbal water blend, the night before wash day- just slather and squeeze it into twists without loosing, tie down. 8- Detangle before washing in the morning, put in bigger twists to wash- loose at the roots, tight at the ends with extra deep conditioner on ends 9- Shampoo twice in twists , loose each twist on final rinse to rinse thoroughly then twist back up 10- deep condition in twists etc 11- Trim a quarter inch twice a year once your ends are always (90% of time) protected by being tucked away 12- Cover with silk scarf rather than bonnet, and slather leave in on exposed parts of hair before covering, so that in the morning your hair is very neat 13- I got more, but this is WAYYYY too long! 😅😂

Why would you pre-poo with deep conditioner?
@pragooutube Жыл бұрын
@@Ms_Jaye I do that to saturate and strengthen my hair beforehand, because I don't deep condition after in the usual way. I use that as a hack so I don't have to get out of the shower and go back in to rinse out anything. That's very annoying to me. Lol. After shampooing I get out the shower and put a leave in that can double as a deep conditioner, give it indirect heat and then style my hair in twists. No rinsing out again.
@pragooutube Жыл бұрын
@@lblair6675 I do it in such a way that it doesn't feel like a lot though. I mixed the stuff I put on my scalp in a little container, so application is an quick and easy massage. Wiping my scalp doesn't take much time as I wipe the base of each twist before retwisting. Wash day (once a month or every 3 weeks) takes less than 2 hours from detangling to styling (if you don't count slathering my twists the night before). Medium twists also take way less time than mini. I make the herbal tea spray every couple of months or so and freeze it so I have quick access each week. So I feel like a real lazy natural when it comes to my hair. 😄

2 months ago I finally decided to just go back completely to water and grease. That's what my aunts used to use on my hair when I was a little girl and my hair was completely down my back not constantly breaking off etc. I don't know why I didn't do this sooner. I grew up in the '70s and '80s when there wasn't all these different hair products and things that we started running to put in our hair. Even my wash day has been so much better less tangles not spending almost 2 hours to detangle, just a much better experience all around. I even threw a bottle of good old pink oil moisturizer in there for good measure. 😅😂 Happy Hair Days Ladies and Gentlemen. Be safe and be blessed out there. As a kid, my mom used hair grease religiously on my natural hair. My hair thrived, grew, whatever, when she used it. Fast forward nearly 40 years, and I still see the same results today. I get frustrated when folks in the natural hair community, especially, demonize hair grease. And they can't back it up with science to dispel or prove whatever they're pushing. I have no idea how it works or why it works, but I see results every. single. time. It makes me think that some of the "old ways" of doing things are oftentimes better (though not every time). Thanks for this. Feels good to find someone in this space who can verify/attest to the benefits of hair grease backed by science. Enjoyed this!

I love hair grease in the winter time especially because it just seems to do a better job of preserving moisture in that dry winter air. For me in order to retain length I am just staying on top of dead and split ends. I trim every 3 to 4 months, I make moisturizing a priority over styling, I stay in a bonnet when I am at home, and I use sunblock on my hair when I know I'm going to be spending a lot of time outside.

Last, here are some things that I have learned from this channel, and other natural hair enthusiast here on KZbin: 1. Weekly deep condition with homemade fenugreek mask 2. Weekly washes with shampoo (I use Pattern) 3. Every 2/3 days I remoisten my hair with an aloe vera juice, spritz (I use one from a company called curls) 4. Seal ends with a homemade beeswax and shea sealant 5. I add a few scoops of MSM powder to my mask, spritz and sealant. 6. I make 4-10 twist with my hair and then gather them to make two pigtails with an elastic band 7. I started trimming my ends every 8 weeks (some people may need less trims) 8. I drink 64oz water a day and end my day with a fruit and veggie (usually spinach) smoothie 9. I fast for 36 hours once a week That's all I got, ain't got no more! Thank you for the videos!

You give the absolute best advice for hair care. My hair would be a dry frizzy broken mess with out your videos. My hair gets so long now that I know how to use Vaseline to care for it and it's beautiful. I just cut 4 inches off the back though because it's just too hot and humid right now. But I had the confidence to do that because I know I can grow it back easily by winter. Thank you Curly Chemistry!

Thank you for this tutorial. I find it helpful to see how you actually apply it. What works for growing my hair is massaging my scalp either every night or every other night for a good three to four minutes, keeping it stretched in twist outs or braid outs when it's not in a protective style about 25% to 50% of the time, taking my time to thoroughly, gently, and patiently finger detangling with of leave in conditioner for slip before combing, definitely being patient when combing from the bottom up so that I'm not losing strands, knowing my moisture cycle which, for my high porosity to medium high porosity hair which is moisturizing either every day or every other day, and on wash days always, always doing a hot oil treatment before I wash using a combination of castor oil, olive oil, camellia oil and rosemary essential oil and sometimes peppermint oil as well (all known for helping with hair growth), and using both a protein conditioner followed by a moisturizing conditioning mask. My hair is very dense and high porosity but my strands are fine to medium strands so grease in the past has weighed it down. However, after watching your video I'm going to try again with a lighter touch and see how my hair does. It's possible that I put too much grease in the last time I tried it. Thanks again!

5:07 For length retention, switching to a hair conditioner with lots and lots of slip helped. Before LORYS, I'd end up cutting knots frequently on wash days because the bottle conditioners I used in the past weren't as great at closing my cuticles and creating slip.I would use up almost half a bottle with meh conditioning 😅. I have very tight coily hair, o shape curls, literaly like a compressed spring. So no conditioner = fewer wash days abd no brushing. Now I can wash my hair and scalp as often as I need to, usually every 7days. Learnt lots about what ingredients to look out for from your content so thank you so much! ❤

Thank you advocating for hair grease! I've been using it for the past 4 years and I've seen a lot of growth. I usually apply grease after I add in my leave in. Then I put my hair in a protective style that lasts 2 weeks. Shampoo my hair every 2 weeks because being a mom of 2 under 2, I don't have the time. I love wearing loose twists or twists hairstyles that lasts for 3-4 weeks but I also clean my scalp with ACV rinse and oil my scalp with hemp seed oil (I learned that from one of your videos) since my scalp gets dry and itchy. I also found that grease as a sealant allows my hair to be moisturized for a longer period of time.
@IndigooceanOrg Жыл бұрын
My hair grew the most when I had it in locs and I think that's simply because I wasn't combing it out all the time. I washed it every 2-4 weeks, used a leave-in conditioner at the roots where it wasn't fully loc'd, and used oil after washing to seal moisture in. That's it. Would have been down to my butt if I hadn't kept cutting it back to brastrap length (or shorter) for less weight pulling at my neck. I cut and combed out the locs a year ago, but now I'm in the process of getting back to that basic idea, just with twists I retwist once a month so that it doesn't actually loc and I can do blowout styles when I feel like it. I do use grease on the ends sometimes (Dax Hemp version), but seem to do better with a blend of castor and baobab oil.

I use the following DIY oils for my hair growth: EVO, Castor, Peppermint, Tea Tree, Sandalwood, Cloves & Rosemary. (They are all mixed together). I apply them 3 nights a week before bed (cover with a plastic cap and satin cap). Also, I apply the oil mixture to my scalp immediately after I wash & deep condition my hair (once a week), just before I apply my leave-in conditioner and then style. I leave the same style in all week (usually just 1 braid). After sealing my ends with hair grease, I clip the braid up so that it doesn't rub up against my shoulders/clothes. Daily, I spritz my hair with water, apply the leave-in conditioner to my hair and braid without taking it down. I'm already noticing more growth then I would normally see in 4-5 months. So something is working. Also, I take my supps and drink a LOT of water each day.

I oiled my scalp with real Jamaican black castor oil that my friend brought back from vacation it’s very different from the different brands that’s sold in America and it’s had a very strong different smells too it’s smells like chocolate I mixed it with pumpkin seed oil and massage my scalp and spritz my hair with a liquid leavein conditioner then I cover my hair with a plastic bag because I don’t want my castor oil to go to waste on my pillow case and I want it to penetrate my scalp with the green house method too. So far I’m loving it I’m going to add some essential oil to it but I feel as though the castor oil is so strong because it’s made the traditional way it actually tingles my scalp. I did a fast Etsy search for the same brand I have and an 8oz bottle is a whopping $40 😅. I will definitely rebuy it I thing I’m going to make a concoction with pumpkin seed oil the castor oil, vitamin E oil and peppermint oil and lavender oil.

I am starting over with hair growth, but the key is keeping the ends trimmed, I think. Manipulating your hair as infrequently as possible, not using rollers that remove strands of hair especially at the back of your head, limiting chemical or eliminating processes all lead to keeping your hair longer.

I started putting petroleum jelly on the ends of my hair only and I have been retaining mad length ever since. The way I see it, the petroleum jelly sits in for the sebum that can never travel all the way down my kinky and coily strands and coat the ends to keep that moisture there as long as possible so I can retain that length. Petroleum jelly is the bomb! 😊

Since I big chopped 7 years ago I only made it to shoulder length. I spent the first five years wearing wash and go’s because I have 3b/c hair. It was just easy. But I wasn’t retaining length with all the constant detangling I had to do. Then I saw a recurring theme about maintaining stretched hair. I’ve been doing that for 18 months now and I’m bra strap length now. So no more wash and go’s for me. Maybe for a special occasion but never going back to that!

How do you stretch your hair do you use heat on heatless methods....id love to hear your response
@pansiesplace4446 Жыл бұрын
@@flawed_yet_worthy I rotate dring on cool with rev air and sometimes I just let my hair dry naturally. It's not necessary to get bone-straight hair just get it to the point that it's not curling in on itself. Also, the secret is not in the drying. The daily style you wear is more important to me. So no matter how I dry. I braid or twist my hair for the entire week so that there is no tangling. This is how I keep my hair stretched and untangled. I rotate styles but the ends are always braided or twisted. All I do is re-moisture without undoing the style halfway thru the week.

I'm glad I found you! Questions: 1. Since hair grease is petroleum-based, is it safe to use Vaseline Petroleum Jelly instead of the traditional hair grease? 2. If it's safe, can I mix essential oils into the Vaseline? 3. I use peppermint and lavender essential oils for hair growth. How many drops of each should I put in the Vaseline? Thank you.

I love using oils on my twists but my using my leave in with grease might just be the answer to going a full week without re oiling instead of every few days!

Hey, you mentioned at the end it doesn't clog the pores of the scalp. Does that mean you would recommend putting it directly on the scalp? I added grease into my routine about two months ago and the length retention has been crazy ever since. I keep my hair in plaits or twists. I started 2024 at armpit length, I'm now nearly at mid-back length.

I use non-petroleum hair grease. I keep my hair in twists, so it works great for retaining moisture until wash day. Natural Oasis, G Natural, and Kemistry Organics are a few of my faves. Let me put some in my hair now after my leave in conditioner!

My absolute FAVORITE grease is Dax with Lanolin! My hair is very dense, medium-fine, 3c-4a, medium-high porosity, and almost tailbone length. I tried grease-free, and I tried Blue Magic, but they don't compare.

Hi, Tonya (spelled correctly by the way) My name is Tonya, Thank you for sharing your knowledge along with explanations and visuals!! I have been using petroleum grease for a long, especially since I now have unruly gray hair. I put the grease on my shaft and then braid, I need to add water as well. I noticed you did not use hair grease on your scalp. I use it on my scalp as well, to keep the gray hair smoother. Is that wrong?

Love the tutorial!!! More please!! I've been using my blue magic hair grease for my scalp on wash days while it's still wet. Game changer!! I also use it to retain moisture after using my aloe vera juice with whole cloves spray mix and my hair is doing very well. All of these tips I received from you so Thank you so much!!! Could I request a video on old skool product replacements? Once the old faithfuls are off the market or out of stock, what are some new products that are close or better? For example Queen Helene Cholesterol and Lady Hilda Hair creme to name a few. Looking forward to the next vid!!!

I listened to too much hearsay and my ends keep tangling together. When i use grease my ends do not tangle and it stays moisturised for longer. The grease was not our problem it was not using a leave in before applying the grease it makes the hair more easier to comb there are also different greases to choose from so they are not all heavy.
