A set of techno music on the Teenage Engineering OP-Z using a mix of custom and stock samples.
The reason you see two OP-Z's on-screen sometimes is that the device hiccups really bad when switching live between two "songs". Trigs drop, things get wonky, so I recorded those transitions separately.
This is available for purchase or streaming on all major music services: fanlink.tv/rmr...
Patrons get the full mix and the OP-Z files: / redmeansrecording

I’m like a total stranger to techno but man it was a hell of enjoyable listen. Great showcase of the OP-Z and generally a proof that nowadays a talented person can create top tier music with a 500 dollar plastic thing that looks like a toy and can fit in your pocket, what an era to live in

Absolutely amazing. I knew as soon as I saw the OP-Z that this sort of performance was inevitable and if anyone was going to do a good one it would be Jeremy. Someone in the comments said that this is a way to avoid 1000 hours of work. No. This incredible video is what you get when someone puts in the 1000 hours, and then gets an OP-Z. P.S. After watching a few OP-1 videos back, and from making my own songs on the same device, I am even more awe struck at your sound design skills. If Teenage Engineering don’t hit you up for their next device their marketing department needs some looking at, much as I like them.

Killer set! I'd definitely go to this show. I really enjoyed the balance of high and low moments, and the transitions between were smooth and clean. The punch-in effects at around 40 minutes really caught my ear in a pleasing way; in fact, that whole section was probably my favorite part. :) Also, shout-out to the fedora-lords writing novels in the comments about what is and isn't "real techno": you guys really showed everyone how cool and intelligent the scene can be, I guess. Much more important to get hung up on semantics than to celebrate making art, after all.

OOHHRMAAAHGAAAWD THIS IS AMAZING! seriously it is. What I love the most with the OP-Z is that when you sit with it, you always end up feeling like you can make a live set or an album right at that moment. I’ve never felt like that with an instrument. It’s just a barrel of happy times!

This is so unbelievably well done. This video was my main motivation for finally getting the OP-Z myself, and boy oh boy is what Jeremy is doing here difficult. I am now training with the OP-Z for a few months and I cannot come close to the complexity required for managing a whole set on the OP-Z. On another note: this is such a good set for getting in to the work mode! Nicely done Jeremy :)

Awesome set! Great creativity and infectious beats! It's even more impressive as the whole ergonomics of the opz seem disastrous. The unit constantly moves around, the top buttons give a hard time to your left hand, you don't interact that much with the sequencer, despite being an element front and center in the design...

I think I actually "get" the OPZ after this. They should become an apple dealer, and bundle this with an iPad, tbh. Because that's what unlocks the intuition. Intuition is what the OP1 became famous for. This -- together with the iPad -- finally makes sense to me.

Honestly, sometimes giving designers too much input can result in a product unusable for the masses, given TE’s design background I guess this is why you have a product like this, I think there was an absolute lack of foresight into how useful in real world situations this is... no screen, terrible volume button placement, not to mention the buttons on the device seem incredibly difficult to press, but maybe I’m wrong... ? I just don’t understand why it had to be this small ??? It’s not like the OP1 was huge or anything...
@antfactor
@antfactor 5 жыл бұрын
I agree - in many ways - but sometimes I wonder if it's their "quirkiness" that makes certain people gravitate towards this. It looks like it supports "macro-mapping" and it can manifest as a very musically (and visually) expressive tool with those knobs. But then - if you have an iPad already (honestly - I love iPads as well), it's a full fledged toy box - right? @@Naapeajaea
@joshwagner1156
@joshwagner1156 5 жыл бұрын
@@Naapeajaea I'm absolutely convinced that most of TE's products are for making music on the go. Especially because the op1 has a built in radio you can sample from. Since a lot of people already carry a tablets with them, you could easily put the OPz in a pocket or a bag and work on your tracks whenever you have a few free minutes

Superbe set man. Great tips learnt, like pressing play with Prg to engage and not jump to the next pattern :) I noticed the jump to a song to another is set to happen on the next beat, no matter the lenght of the longest track ...16th step definition here. We got to be tight and wait for the very last beat of the loop.
