Fun fact, Optimus prime and Orion pax are both Latin names. Optimus prime translates roughly to "best and greatest" in English. Orion pax would roughly translate to Orion the Peaceful

Fun fact: in IDW the decepticons call themselves by that name because their motto was "you may be deceived, but we are not", reflecting the disparity and inequality between classes. The idea was that form equaled function, so if you transformed into a drill, you'd be mining ore your entire life with no real way to expand or change your role in society.

Orion Pax, taken from Greek and Latin meanings, literally means "Hunter of Peace". Optimus Prime similarly means "First of the Best". It is to be taken that these meanings are a coincidence as it is unlikely that the Cybertronians would know what an alien species would know, and in some universe millions of years before that species ever existed. In all cases this is what the Writers wrote.

i love transformers growing up. used to watch the Unicron triology (armada, energy, and cybertron) as a kid

Id suggest sticking with IDW Transformers lore wise. They did a fantastic reboot/Origin and story line by fleshing it out and adding more realism. Megatron was a digger, because he large, strong and his alt mode. Pre-Autobot logic was your alt mode dictates your lot in life. If you have an industrial mode, guess what your doing until you die. But back on topic. Megatron was a digger at an energon mine. Energon was running low and you need to feed workers. So fire the workers, make it automated. Riot, oops murder and Megatron is arrested. They revolt on the ship, kill the senator that arrested them THEN he joined Bludgeons gladiator pit. Won, became a badass. Soundwave offered him a deal on behave of Senator Ratbat and the Decepticons were initialized. As a freedom fighter group. NOT as rebels or terrorists. They fought the senate to protect those bots who were 'disappearing'. The Transformers Prime story is good, but IDW knocked it out of the park at the end of the day.

I liked the origin of all transformers with primus and unicron being spiritual entities that got merged with physical matter at the dawn of time. I actually own that comic and I used to read it all the time when I was younger. I didn't understand the significance at the time but I do now.

Vin Diesel: Were there any certain comic runs you read in preparation for the role? If so, what were your favorites?

Generally that is the origin of Optimus Prime and Megatron with some exceptions: The main differences are generally that Optimus and Megatron usually didn’t know each other before the war, and one thing that the Prime origin glossed over is that Megatron killed Optimus’ predecessor, Sentinel Prime as apart of his gambit to take control of Cybertron. Also, it varies on if Cybertron’s core had been corrupted but generally the war has taken a toll causing massive damage to the planet (except in the Unicron Trilogy where Cybertron really doesn’t seem to be in that bad of condition when the war comes to Earth and Animated mostly because we are seeing a post-War Cybertron so we don’t have that much of information on how bad the war affected the planet) But even with that, I’m sure most people would agree the Prime origin is a very strong origin in general, and hits most of the points of how they became what they are.

This is the "Aligned" origin, which is part of this timeline: Covenant of Primus (book), War For Cybertron (game), Fall of Cybertron (game), Transformers Prime (tv show), Transformers Robots in Disguise (tv show), Rescue Bots (tv show), Rescue Bots Academy (tv show). As a comic guy, I'd expect Rob to be reading the IDW 2005 continuity instead of the Aligned tv show continuity

this is the origin of them in the aligned continuity. you can go to tfwiki and read about continuity. most comics since 1984 are part of the G1 continuity family and the shows on Netflix are not G1

Well Transformers Prime is the years ago, the more recently series Transformers Cyberverse, had a similar origins also the current IDW comics are only in 17 issues so far.

The 2005-2018 IDW continuity is the best. The current continuity that started in 2019 is still pretty early to say if it will be better than it’s predecessor, but for now I will always recommend the 2005-2028 continuity

I really love that you decided to talk about the Prime/Aligned Origins of Options and Megatron. I think it's the best origin for them since it's simple but shows the comexities of the relationship between the two and how it can and will affect them moving forward. And it shows that Megatron did have good intentions but had a fall from grace of sorts

I agree that the Transformers Prime (aka the *Align Continuity* ) version of the origin is probably the best since works in the best beats of all the previous ones and is most character driven, as well as it's the template that Hasbro goes uses since for new stories. Though you might include the *Prime* note for the more nitpicky people. At the same time you could make another video(s) that compares and contrasts other origins, like the original cartoon, original marvel series, War within etc.

I read a origins comic on Megatron and he was a worker on cybertron that rebelled and others followed forming the decepticons. I cant remember the writer but I'm pretty sure that's what the story was. That story was put into movie universe i believe. When in Transformers 2.. the crashed ship with Sentinal prime was in it.. that's what happened after the whole cybertron rebellion. If I remember correctly lol I never read this origin tho
