Apparently , the tilting backgauge option is to compensate for cutting faults e.g. “undercutting” (a scooped effect as in the video) where the lower sheets in the pile are cutting longer/oversize. Or “overcutting” where the upper sheets of the pile are cutting longer - possibly caused by a blunt knife resulting in a “dragging effect”. It can help if a knife is beginning to go blunt, but the job in progress is urgent and needs to go out. So you can use the tilt facility to compensate for say overcutting, finish the panic job, and then change the blade afterwards. The Polar technician who trained me said that the tilting backgauge feature was to overcome “a knife problem”! Stay safe and well.
