Just an idea: instead of sub pages you may use *tabs* in ACF field groups. This works well in my case.

I know this is an old comment but in case anyone else is curious, I use a plugin called Admin Menu Editor, it's great- it's worth buying the pro version because you can completely customize your dashboard and admin and you can have different panels for each user.
