This 8500t seems to perform well on PS2 and Wii/GC. I had a Lenovo 9500T with 8gb or RAM and 500gb HDD and Win10 Pro and I wasn't able to run perfect any game/console even on x1 resolution, I always have mini stutters, but with my new 11400t everything runs perfect. In the future I will try to get a machine with 13500t but for now I'm happy:)

So i had some 7500t and 6500t builds of retrobat on windows. on single channel ram i had terrible gc ps2 wii performance. Made it dual channel and saw performance up to 2x resolution stable on those chips. try dual channel ram!!

@@Swarlayzers I wasn't able to try that because I sold the system after I got my M70Q with 11400T, but maybe you're right and it's possible to gain performance with two sticks of ram. In my 9500T I had only one stick of 8GB of RAM and the emulation was terrible under Win10 Pro.

👍 these mini PCs are so pretty. In my opinion, AMD Apus are best for emulation of the newer systems. My notebook with athlon300u, a very weak dualcore, can go up to wiiu. My HTPC with 5600g does it all. Never could try Intel XE internal graphics though. There are refurbed HP mini PCs with APUs worth considering.

Humanoid, what settings did you set this up on? I'm asking because I have a mini pc i5 8500t 32Gb dual ddr... Ps2 games freeze when I set 1080p... I have a Batocera 35

I'd reccommend batocera 39 for PS2 and download the latest bios files for it. V35 was very good version but I did notice big improvements with PS2 from v37 onward. theres not much I do in the settings other than make sure display is set full screen (or 16:9), FMV Aspect ratio set to Widescreen. Rendering resolution to 2x/3x etc depending on power of machine :)

In many ways it’s very similar to the 7500T. PS3 is much better and a bit more from the other higher end consoles 😁

@jim4262 it’s difficult to say but you’ll get most not working on an 8th Gen i5. You’ll also find quite a few that will run. Portal should be ok, not sure about the other 2. It’s important to not get too higher expectations on ps3. 11th Gen i5’s have a large os3 failure ratio. It’s a gamble as to what works but worth it for the ones that do 😁

I play GTA V on linux/proton with my 7500t, at 30 FPS/960p, so yes, it will play these games just fine.

Well, base clock speed is 2.1ghz where as my i7 6700T is 2.8ghz But the i5 8500T has 6 cores whereas mine is 4 core 4 thread so Im guessing thats what is giving ps3 better performance over mine. But doesnt gamecube emulation only use 1 core by default with option for 2 in its settings? If so my i7 6700T would be better wouldnt it? As for ps2 and others, not sure either. Does having 6 cores at 2.1ghz give better performance than 4 at 2.8ghz? Depends on emulator and what they use I guess. Also, the i5 8500T has Intel Graphics 630 where mine is 530 so I guess that plays a part too.

Core numbers and internal graphic differences have to play a major part in these machines. I’ve wondered about this for ages. I guess speed is an obvious advantage but so much more to consider with these systems. I7-6700t vs i5-8500t on a google search reveals all these other tech differences…

​@@HumanoidMachines Yeah I know, Ive looked that up too. Search for differences and you will see a few sites that show you the differences. But it also does depend on the emulator, like for eg some dont need multicores so surely the single core max speed is more important there. But yeah, defo on ps3 more cores the better even if they are slightly lower in clock so speed. But you can also look up the emulator dev sites and they also often mention minimum specs and preferred specs etc. Stuff like that. But I dont think the i5 8500T is a significant performance boost over my i7,apart from doing ps3 better that is anyway.. 😊.. That is to justify spending to get it. For me it any next upgrade would have to be a substantial performance boost.

@@fonzitheman it’s not significantly better than the 7500t either until it comes to ps3. Yes ps2 is better but the jump from 2x to 3x is not as apparent as 1x to 2x.

@@HumanoidMachines Yeah. I set my ps2 games to 2x as system but a handful of games at 1x. But I dont bother testing any games that can be upscaled to 3x,wouldnt be many anyway. But cause as you said, diff between 2x and 3x isnt as great. Well, not on the display I use anyway Im using a 24" monitor so 2x still looks great.

​@HumanoidMachines On my 7500t with 24gb ram, the only ps2 games that give me trouble performance wise are Gran Turismo 4 at Special Stage Route 5 and Beyond Good & Evil. If you could test these 2 in your 8500 with at least 16gb of ram, it would be much appreciated.

⁠​⁠​⁠@@ourdailymeat The i3 8100t would sit in a Dell Optiplex 3060 and the 7500 and 7100 would be in a Dell Optiplex 3050. HP G3 will probably have the 7th Gen and their g4 the 8th Gen Lenovo m910q for the 7th gen and their 720 and 920 minis for the 8th Gen

Ive got the same machine with the same cpu and my ps3 games run in slow motion even though the fps counter says 40-50 fps, any tips on fixing this?

Depends what games you're trying to play as a lot won't make it. Try these settings... I tend to assign individual game setting but you can do this for the whole PS3 settings... Advance Game Options (or System Options if you're affecting the whole system) CPU - PPU Decoder set to LLVM Preffered SPU Threads - 1 RENDER - Zcull Accuracy - Relaxed (Fastest) Shader Quality - Low AUDIO - Enable Audio Buffering - On Audio Buffer Duration - 180 or 200ms Enable Time Stretching - On These changes could help

Good point and I found the 8500t jump to the 9500t as marginal. I can only assume the advantages are with the support for new technologies. It certainly is better with emulation but only slightly. I’m also finding no massive jump between 10th and 11th Gen i5’s

Just today I bought a Dell Optiflex 3060 i5 8500t 16Gb ram, 1Tb ssd for $130.. with warranty. Now I'm looking for pads, fire up Batocera and drift off to my beloved 80s and 90s

It is a really good mini for batocera. I squeezed even more out of it since this video. So versatile and plays a decent amount of the higher end platforms such as ps3, Wii-U etc

Mini PC offer minimalistic and clean look but gives away a lot of potential by not using dedicated GPU. Even an old HD7850 is night and day compared to Onboard iGPU. With an GTX1650 i can scale up Switch Games up to 1,5-2x on an i5 7500.

My mini builds are aimed at retro gaming up to ps3 and Wii-u. Switch is still a current platform so not on my radar. Gaming desktop are the bees knees with all that power to boot but they are big and noisy. I love the mini’s because they are so versatile, look like a console and very quiet. A mini with a 7th Gen i5 is relatively cheap and will play PS2 at double resolution. You can play Mario Kart 8 on Wii-U and reach into PS3. There’s no argument what a desktop gaming setup can do but the minis have their place and are a brilliant retro gaming option.

@@HumanoidMachines get your point, i started with an J1900. But i am just using a bigger case with Kaby Lake CPU. I got the whole PC for 50bucks and sold parts of RAM for 20. GTX1650 alone was 50 so total cost of 80. I chose 1650 because its efficient (but also a bit overkill) and total system idles around 20-25w. Even an 750TI brings a lot. 6/7th gen CPU quad T models are still quite expensive, around 50 bucks. I have played GT4 on pxsx2 with 4x upscaling and texture mods, not wanting to go back because it looks fantastic. So it really depends how much scaling you need. PS3 is really a whole different picture and also Xbox/Xbox360 requires much more CPU.
