✌clearly explained. Very good video. The only point to add is once you had changed the name of the database you had forgot to change the entry in /etc/oratab with the new database name.

Thanks, but ask. if there is no database on the destination, what did you enter in db2 from minute 14:16 to sqlplus?
@DB2_Oracle Жыл бұрын
The instance can be started in no mount mode even if database is not present. You need spfile or pfile for the same.

Pls can u share the scripts u used. Then at first u said there's no running database on the target. I don't think u can have an Oracle home without a database in it. I got confused at the point i saw u did cd Oracle home on the target server. U can help clarify. Because the scenario i am looking at is a case where u just server ans an OS running then u copy the init.ora, orapw file and backups then create directories. Thank you
@DB2_Oracle13 күн бұрын
You can have ORACLE_HOME without any database in it. In most production servers, we first install Oracle Software which creates Oracle Home. Then we create the database. In this lab, the Oracle is installed on both of the servers before. And on the target server, there is no Database created.

So if you have specified multiple locations on the source DB for tablespaces, where are the tablespace files placed on the target DB?
@DB2_Oracle11 ай бұрын
You can restore db to different location. Use set newname for datafile clause in the restore rman run block.

Can the restore be done from a backup that didn't use rman?
@DB2_Oracle Жыл бұрын
Yes, but not using RMAN. If you want to use other backup and restore methods, its fine. However RMAN does not recognize those backups.

How can i restore database on a other server for example one minut before failure on source server?
@DB2_Oracle Жыл бұрын
You have to do point in time restore. When you restore you need to specify the time of the restore. It's possible.

If we do not have (pfile and password file ## lost on source db), we have rman backup file, can we store db to another server? thanks
@DB2_Oracle Жыл бұрын
Yes, you can. Oracle Provides sample pfile in ORACLE_HOME directory. You can copy it and modify it as per your requirements. Also Password file can be re-created any time. You can restore your database even if you do not have pfile and password file. Its just more work.

I'm sorry but this is not a backup this is a transfer of the database to a seperate server. Why do I say this, first of all your rman files are stored on the original server. What will you do when your server bursts in to flames and you can't access the original server? Nothing, so you don't have a backup.
@DB2_Oracle Жыл бұрын
Very nice. Thanks for the comment. However, no organization would be storing backups on their original server. They will be stored on a storage disk which is different than the actual database server. And if they are storing the backups on database server itself, its a bad design. This video is a demo of how to perform backup and restore.
