Finally a globally distributed database from Oracle -- Will this be now Google Spanner vs Oracle GDAS?

Very different. Spanner exposes one global database. The application doesn't have to know where data is physically. Oracle needs a shard key, cannot have cross-shard global indexes or referential integrity. It competes with Citus or Aurora Limitless, not with Distributed SQL
