This is AMAZING!!! I was thinking "Gee! Most of the giants do say that Ken was one of a kind. I wonder if there are some interviews of him". And I searched on KZbin a bit only to find that very few interviews of him are out there. Scrolling a bit more and I find this video, and it was just uploaded 9 hours ago!! Amazing! Timing couldn't have been better!! I wish there were some interviews of Dennis Ritchie too. It is sad that he passed away about a decade ago. Thank you Computer History Museum for uploading the interviews of giants like Knuth, Thompson and Cutler. Keep up the great work!!

If you're into computer chess history it's definitely a video for you but if you're into Unix and C history you might get bored. I gave up after 01:23:00. Though the first 15 min contains some crunchy pieces of autobiographical memories. Hope there is a part 2 on the way

Amazingly as a software genius, he seems very polite, calm and relax. Nothing looks like a geek at all. Impressive.

Why are there no closed captions or transcript? Opportunity lost. The title is also deceptive; it should have said something along the lines of: "Ken Thompson's Role in Chess Algorithms." (it's baffling that the computer industry turned out as advanced as it did).

So basically Ken doesn't even care that much for Unix and had much more fun creating games and algorithms for playing against humans ? 🤣Legend

Could someone please share the PGN of the game Ken mentioned, where he was put in check and then responded with a checkmate? Or any of Ken's game ....

The one full length interview of Ken Thompson on the net is all about chess, really? Well at least we can now look forward to a two hour interview with Gary Kasparov on the early years of Unix.

you have ken thompson here and all you ask is about chess instead of Unix? that's really pathetic.
