Dr. Rayan I have a question out of the INBDE scope. If someone collapsed and needed CPR can we do it (or like any person who is not related to any medical field) or have to be certified to do so? I'm sorry it might be a silly question but I got confused when you said this does not certify you for basic or advanced BLS. Isn't it any attempt at resuscitation is better than no attempt?
@mentaldental
@mentaldental 3 ай бұрын
That’s a great question, and I actually teach this in my Patient Management series. You are allowed to perform CPR even if you are not certified and you’ll be protected under Good Samaritan laws as long as you’re providing care in good faith. Call 911 and do chest compressions until EMS gets there or someone who is certified can take over with high-quality CPR.

if we were supposed to choose between 100 or 120 compressions per minute what would you put?
@mentaldental
@mentaldental Жыл бұрын
If I had to choose between the two, I would say 100 compressions per minute, but the correct range is 100-120 as taught here!

Hii Dr. Ryan, there is one question that the basic syllabus for nbde part 1&2 or inbde is same? Should we learn it from same material or is there any new study material for the preparation?

what are the indications for CPR in a dental clinic? is any collapse considered to be a CPR candidate?
@mentaldental
@mentaldental 3 жыл бұрын
No, you would have to follow the decision tree at the 3:00 minute mark to decide when CPR is appropriate. No pulse and abnormal/no breathing.
@jagdeepkaur8798
@jagdeepkaur8798 2 жыл бұрын
As per American Heart Association, BLS (CPR) is done when there is no pulse and breathing.

Could you please explain more about what do you mean exactly by saying 5 cycles of CPR ( 2 min)? because as far as I undersootd we must give 30 chest compression per 2 breath and we must give total of 100-120 Compressions ( 30) per min so how 5 cycles equal to 2 min only? thanks
@mentaldental
@mentaldental 2 жыл бұрын
Sure thing! 5 cycles in 2 minutes means 24 seconds per cycle (that is 120 seconds divided by 5). Each of those cycles is going to consist of compressions and breaths. The 30 compressions at a rate of 100-120 per minute would take about 15-18 seconds total, and the breaths would take up the remainder of the time.
@springsh6678
@springsh6678 2 жыл бұрын
@@mentaldental Ok so if each cycle is only 24 seconds then within this 24 seconds we must give equal to 30 chest compression fallowed by 2 breath and repeat it agin right? for 2 min which in total makes 5 cycles???

I dont know why dental students are not taught properly about CPR and ACLS. Debrillator here would not make sense to students watching this video. Please refer to ACLS algorithms to understand when defibrillator is used. It is used during artial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia. Refer to latest AHA guidelines for the topic.
