I recently picked up the 35RT. I am very happy with it. it gets a good clean tone and sound, and can provide some nice Jazzy warmth. The dirty channel is pretty versatile with the 4 gain stage preamp there are many options to get the distortion you are looking for. I have a NUX Overdrive Pedal to front end it and it really responds well to it on both the clean and dirty channel, and further adds to the versatility of tone and distortion / overdrive level.

I tried both in a store. The 20 RT has a softer, warmer sound. The 35RT has a drier sound. For the power the difference is small if you play at home. I have the 20 RT to play Jazz! It is even better and more powerful than the DV Mark Little Jazz.

I would prefer it if orange would make a version of the 20-RT without the tuner and include and effects loop instead. I'm not a fan of onboard tuners and the fact that there isn't an option without the tuner really bugs me. I like Orange amps, I think this is a great little amp but without an effect loop I feel like there is something missing. Good review...thanks.
@RockHardRiffs Жыл бұрын
Thank you Anthony. I think the question is...do you really need an FX loop? Thanks for watching!
@AnthonyMonaghan Жыл бұрын
@@RockHardRiffs I'd like the option over an onboard tuner, but that's just my taste. I have read the Orange 35 has a buffered effects loop and it's a great addition to the overall usage of the amp. I'd certainly use it, so I guess the answer is yes, I do need an FX loop! HA ha...and round and round it goes. Thanks.
@RockHardRiffs Жыл бұрын
@@AnthonyMonaghan I hear ya and I agree. The thing is...I can't tell you the last time...or any time for that matter....that I used or even looked at the tuner. It's just one of those things that's just....there. As far as the FX loop goes....do you use your own overdrive/distortion pedal? If so...you don't need the fx loop. Delay and reverb need to be the last in the chain. Put your delay pedal (if you use one) after the overdrive and you're fine.

@mikec67334 жыл бұрын
@@RockHardRiffs No insult whatsoever !!!! Thanks for getting back. Your advice is very sound(no pun intended), BUT, I might just take a chance based upon KZbin videos for the following reasons: My mind is very unwieldy, I might like something one day and not like it the next. I find value in receiving something that is less than ideal, then loving it anyways. (think of the Christmas tree in the classic Peanuts cartoon) I might just take my best shot (at amp selection) then just deal with whatever I get. (to avoid the stress of really listening, deciding snd paying $ as a single daunting entity) Playing electric guitar at all is a pretty amazing thing. All this describes my tendencies toward making this decision, BUT, I also value making an excellent choice and being truly happy with the tones. This is how it stacks up for me personally, most of the time.

I tried both today and flipped back and forth multiple times for like 2 hours...I can't decide which one to buy. :P They're both awesome in their own way. 35 has more balls to it but the 20 has a teeny bit more chimeyness to it I find. And I like it bright. Based on your experience which one do you prefer and why?
@RockHardRiffs6 жыл бұрын
Wrath Oskvro It depends on your needs and budget. If you're using it to practice at home or maybe with a drummer with an electric set at most (volume)...and your budget is at its limit...the 20 watt is fine. If you're jamming in a band or playing out in some fashion, and need more volume....you like to use an FX loop and have a few bucks extra to spend....the 35rt may be a better choice. Please keep in mind, when new....either amps speakers need to be broken in. You may still need to mic the 35 watt in a band situation, as well. I hope this helps! Let us know what you chose!

@RockHardRiffs4 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul. My reasoning is to not have any undue influence on anyone else's opinion. You hear what you hear....mic'd and unmic'd. And what you're hearing is very, very close to the real thing. The questions in my mind would be....do I want an FX loop? Do I prefer an 8" or 10" speaker? How much can I afford? My answer to these questions is I prefer the 35rt. I also bought it used at a very good price. I hope this helps.

@RockHardRiffs5 жыл бұрын
@Isaiah Furrow I'd ask myself a few questions I guess. Do I need an fx loop? Am I gigging or jamming in my home? Am I playing with other people? Here are my answers if I were asking myself. No...I don't need an fx loop...at all. If it's just me in my house...this amp is plenty. Jamming with others....solid state can get lost in the mix. Either more wattage or tube amp or P. a. Is a 12' speaker(s) necessary? Not really no. I hope this helps!

@@RockHardRiffs , thanks for your reply. I will give you a bit more info, so you'll better understand my line of thinking... My household is very new to guitar, but it's me, and 3 kids.... 2 of my kids really LOVE music, as do I. I'm a mobile DJ, so have a good bit of PA and audio gear, I'm just not a musician. My son, 12, wants a drumset, and isn't as interested in guitar, so someday we will have one of those, as I've always been into percussion, amd we have like 5 hand drums. My 9 year old daughter loves music, she has a keyboard, and asked for an acoustic guitar for her birthday, so she has that now too. My youngest is 6, but she loves music a lot too, she's just really young. Never to young to play with noisemakers though....lol We have a Squier Mini, 3/4 size Strat... and a Marshall MG30CFX with the add-on footswitch. This seems to have been a good choice to get us started, as it can make a good variety of sounds without adding traditional pedals. One of the reasons for looking into another amp, is so we could get a second electric guitar, and we could play around with them together... One of the reasons for wanting an FX loop, is to add time based stuff at some point, whether it be a Flashback or Hall of Fame pedal, or via a multi-effects like Mooer GE200, or Headrush Gigboard..... a second use for the FX loop is for adding a looper station, my 9 year old really wants to start doing looping covers once she gets good enough at playing(im guessing a couple years down the road). A looper could also be a great practice tool. Someday we might be jamming alongwith others, or with a drum set, but there's no reason i couldn't mic up the guitars and put those through a couple floor monitors, as I have 90% of what is meeded for that already, minus a couple SM57 or similar microphones. .... I checked out a 35RT about a year ago, and i think it would play nicely next to our Marshall...it really did sound nice, and full/round/warm sounding.... With that in mind, what are your thoughts? And any recommendation for a humbucker/LP style guitar that would be affordable enough to not worry about handing it over to a kid, but decent enough to be playable and not discourage a new player? Looking at the Epiphone Slash AFD, Epiphone Les Pauls, or possibly one of the Harley Benson LP copies....but also plan to look into other brands of humbucker guitars... With
