I do a cake with this recipe during the summer. I make a two-layer white or yellow cake, poke it and soak it in either orange juice or sweetened condensed milk. Then I double this recipe and "frost" the cake with it, with plenty in that middle layer. I pipe some Cool Whip dollops with an orange segment on each one for some decoration. Store in the fridge and serve slices on a hot summer day! Not many people can or will say "no" to this cake! It is amazingly refreshing! Thank you, Marie...I haven't made this in a while! Yes you could! It just makes it taste more like mandarin orange.😉 Refrigerate your oranges with the juice first so it’s cold ( for the cold water).

One of my favorites , was so yummy and a easy peasy dessert. I remember eating orange dreamlike ice cream on a stick that used for taffy apples. We'd get from the ice cream man. This does look so yummy, will definitely try this one. I make a similar side dish for Thanksgiving with orange jello and cottage cheese, mandarin oranges and crushed pineapple. The night before I make it I put the oranges and pineapple in a sieve over a bowl in the refrigerator overnight to drain. I used to make this for work for our department dinners. Wish I had this recipe then, it would have been a big hit!!! Thanks for sharing.🥰

You could have used the orange juice for the cold water for the jello . Gives the salad more flavour.

I always use orange juice instead of cold water, always, so much more flavor, I've also seen someone use orange sherbert instead that sounds wonderful. Lastly I always use real whip cream in place of cool whip. Only because I left a bowl of the cool whip sitting out for several hours by accident and oh Lord if you would have seen the ugly of what it turned into you too would never want to put that into a recipe ever again! Just saying you can't go wrong with the real Macoy!
