So I was fishing one day and thought about how great some mashed potatoes would taste with some blackened catfish I had caught. Why was I fishing? Well, I suppose it all started when my father left us, I was only in the third grade. I remember I was home watching Tom and Jerry cartoons, it was a cool Saturday morning, low 50's outside, maybe 50 percent humdity, my mother was crying in the kitchen, my father told me he was going to get cigarettes and that he'd be right back, which I thought was odd, because he didn't smoke... *16 pages later... ... And that's how I ended up totaling my first car... So... About those potatoes. I found the greatest potatoes for mashing while on an expedition through the the Chilean mountains.

This is kinda weird. I'm a metal player, but while I really prefer the clean sound on the micro dark, I think the higher gain stuff sounds much better on the micro terror. The micro dark has this muddyness going on, I really want to hear it in a mix. Because I doubt it will sound that good... But a really good video!

I agree. I mainly listen to metal and thought about getting a micro dark since I knew it could pull off very heavy styles, but I'm glad I ordered a micro terror. It sounds like it could get the tones I want better, and since I also like a bit of black metal, it felt a bit better for what I'd like.

Well, to get a black metal tone you basically can use any amp as long as you have distortion, a bass knob to turn to zero and a shitton of reverb :D

@@JosePineda-jn8jkit has a very “djent” sound, super modern, not very versatile. the micro terror distortion is super classic and might even be boosted with a tube screamer if you want a metal sound. idk it also depends on the pickups and the speaker i guess.

@@uncopino I mean I would agree that Djent uses a saturated tone and the mids in the rhythms often seems cut but, I also find a lot of articulation and mids in a lot of the leads. I haven’t been able to dial that half of the equation in though. For what it can do, it isn’t bad, just a very one trick pony on the gain side.

The very best sound comes from a tiny micro terror ( white) with a RCA black plate 12au7 played into a 1x12 alnico open back cab! Very spot on AC/DC then Plexi style!

Best demo ever! I like both, but worry whether the Dark will cut through the mix. My Micro sounds like a "Marshall DSL with bubbles". I played a small venue rock gig and used a DSL5CR (5 watts) at 8 on the volume knob. So the Micro or Dark might work in a small club. The Micro with an EV 12AX7 tube is 5 db louder than the DSL 5CR. Also, the Micro sounds fine without the effects loop. Agree with a reviewer that says the Dark is a bit muddy, but wow what a clean sound.

if I'm understanding this right, it seems that the terror is something you would use while playing with a band so you're guitar is heard better due to unscooped mid sounds and the dark would be something you would use if you're just practicing by yourself and that darker sound will compensate for the fact that you're only doing one instrument.

I'm prob gonna have to get both now. Good demo! Micro terror sounds more monotone while dark sounds more stereo. Dark also has more fuzz sound and seems more suited for speed metal. While terror has more crunch and suited for hard rock.

this video helped me decide what to get years ago. i got both. i absolutely love the terror. i use it for my main guitar distortion and dirty/slightly dirty guitars. i only use the dark for the real clean chimey sounding tones. i love how clean and clear the dark sounds dialed in to clean tones. kind of ass backwards but, whatever. i love this set up.

rblyle382 Soz mate,no link but I have the package here and it's a TUNG-SOL 12ax7.I got it thru Amazon.These tubes don't glow,so don't worry it's faulty.Totally normal for these tubes.The Groove tube in my MD,also works well in the MT,that one is a C-6(12ax7).Hope this helps.

I'd say get the micro terror (the light one, not the dark), and throw some booster or overdrive in front of it. The dark one has more than enough gain, but sounds really scooped. The original light one has a really punchy mid sound, punchy enough to cut through a mix/ live situation. Just boost the thing up for extra gain, and maybe buy some kind of eq pedal to boost the bottom end to make the sound fatter. I think the dark terror sounds great on it's own, but will be lost when used in a mix.

Amazing review! It helped me completely decide which one I wanted. Originally I wanted the dark, but I really dig the vintage distortion. The dark has a sweet clean though. For jamming on a 1x8 I think the micro terror will be enough. I’d love to hear it with my tube screamer. Thanks again for the video!

I need to look up what is the difference between the Tone and Shape controls. edit: "I have a Dark Terror and have found my sweet spot on it to be just between 1 & 2 o'clock (which, incidentally, is the same spot on my Micro Dark Terror [a common misnaming; he means the Micro Dark]). I do find it to be extremely sensitive and the very slight movement will alter your tone just that little bit more and that's what I feel is fundamentally the heart of frustrations other players may have with it. I have just bought the micro terror and 8" cab. Always loved Orange gear from the punk days in 77 coupled to a 4 x 12 and cherry red SG. Anyway no more reminiscing I think the Micro Dark has he better sound, more depth and character without getting poetic. For the extra £25 quid I wish I'd watched your vid before buying. Ultimately I still have a proper raw Orange mini home rig and still in awe. ... Maybe I'll take the advice and try a larger speaker config With a Gretsch hollow body I get amazing sounds using the clean side of things. Sounds like..............Victory !

Coming in late but what about both in stereo? I'm currently running my MD and Fender Princeton Chorus in stereo. I'm still considering an Orange Detonator ABY for a Dry/Wet setup or A/Stereo(Princeton Chorus/Roland Cube and B/Orange MD but so far I'm liking what I'm hearing. Amazing tone combos to be had.
