George! The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency Household Survey, 2011 was conducted by an impartial & objective N Ireland Executive body, not Irish republicans or nationalists. As a Leinster nationalist (and southern Protestant), I have no problem with you and your fellow Ulster unionist/loyalist/Protestants being British. A reunited Ireland back in the Commonwealth won't deny you your Britishness. It will enshrine it in a new constitution. 112,000 Britons already live in the south.

That may very well be the case in the present circumstances. But with increasing economic retrenchment and fiscal rectitude in GB, English taxpayers are hardly going to continue their ragged-trousered philantrophy indefinately. Ireland will have fininshed bailing out its banks, so that all the taxes they got used to paying can be redirected to funding a UI. As a southern Prod and Leinster nationalist (and unionist with a small 'u'), a UI outside the UK but back in the Commonwealth is optimum.

The Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency's (NIS&RAs) Household Survey, 2011 found that only 40% of N Irelander's consider themselves British only. Whilst 25% and 21% consider themselves Irish only and N Irish only. Technically, that means there's a 6% majority in favour of some degree of seperatism from the UKs of England & Wales and Scotland. The demographics they are a changin! An independent N Ireland would be economically nonviable, and would have to rejoin the 26 for survival.

If you go back far enough, what became British and Irish Celts emerged from a common lineage, apparently parting company around Belgium after a long migration from Turkey. Those who colonised GB, (& subsequently Ulster), came via Belgium. Those who colonised Ireland came via Spain. Geography predicates politics. How else could one justify a union of Scottish, Welsh and English nations in GB. Many Irish would meet Ulster unionists half way by rejoining the Commonwealth for some give of partition.

Thats not entirely true, me along with all the people I know and all the people I've ever met here in N.Ireland, identify ourselves as British, and if someone calls me Irish, then I tell them I'm British, allot of Paddy's and former Provo nationalists, alter them statistics to make you Southerners happy.

Every part of my country is like this, you rarely find Nationalists these days, go to Derry, theres a few Republican couldersacks there, thats it, and they're soon to be gone, most Republicans have gone to the Republic now, like they should have done in 1969.
