Funny. My two boys have a play gun that hoots those Orbies all over the yard. Hard to change what has been working with vermiculite but may be worth a try. Thanks for sharing.

Been having great success for the past two seasons with orbeez. I have been doing 30-40g of orbeez to 5-600ml of water for approximately a 1 1/2” layer under the egg tray and have not had had to rehydrate all the way through the first shed. I keep press and seal on the egg box until a week before they are due. Regarding those asking why not just use water with a tray on top, I tried that before making the switch to orbeez and I didn’t like how the water sloshes around in the box. The orbeez eliminated that problem. The yellow hardware store sponges are also a good option to incubate on in my experience, but the orbeez take up almost no space and last for many clutches. They are also fun to look at lol. Some folks have had success with pre-soaking the orbeez and storing them in jugs at the beginning of the baby season and pouring out what is needed when eggs drop without having to wait to hydrate them. Orbeez are also great for soaking a snake with stuck shed and not risking them drowning somehow. They can be fully submerged and have enough air between the beads to breathe.

Thats great it was def a rough draft here but they plumped up nicely and so far so good next time ill prep a bunch and just have them ready to go in the incubator for clutches coming up.

Brandon only added a sip of water to the tub. 😂 make sure you guys fill the tub half way with water
@NixonReptiles2 ай бұрын
@@Windy_City_Morphs first time haha wasn’t as prepared they did absorb all the water though and things are looking good 2 weeks later
@Windy_City_Morphs2 ай бұрын
Once you add the orbeez to the bottom of the tub you fill the tub half way with water and it takes about 30 minutes for the water to be absorbed. Then you dump the excess water out and you’re ready to incubate. No need to be adding water after your eggs are in the incubator.

Interesting I got 2 simcontainer planning on trying that, since I cant buy anymore of those eggboxes I might give orbeez a try at some point ! Thanks ! 🙂
@NixonReptilesАй бұрын
simcontainer thats the one I was thinking of those are crazy expensive though not practical for a good number of clutches at least cost wise but I wouldnt be opposed to them.

I'm giving it a try myself this year with the water beads and so far it's going good with the pre trail and once your done with them you can dry them out and reuse them but I use a 1 tbsp and it gives you the right amount which is 2 beads high
@akari_reptiles2 ай бұрын
Huge bag of vermiculite taking up space vs. a small bag of water beads. It's a better alternative but I might wait for more people to experiment with them before I give it a go.

@@akari_reptiles I heard of it through Juan at Windy City and others have done it as well. I’m not even opposed to just water but want the eggs further away from that water.

Why not just use water and nothing else?
@NixonReptiles2 ай бұрын
@@balllabs I would worry about water sloshing around that said I wouldn’t be against it but I wouldn’t want the eggs that close to water directly. There are those super expensive incubation tubs where you put water in the bottom then suspend the eggs above which I’d like but not willing to spend the $ per tub that would be.

Came to comments something similar to what’s already been commented. We used trays over water this year and had no issues at all. Are you using the Orbies as an anti slosh?

You only needed an eighth of the water beads you poured in. Maybe less.

@@wwlchen1178 thanks! I actually made a small tub of them ready to go so I can just pour and go next time around. Learning experience here

@NixonReptiles that's what I do. I have a couple of new takeout containers I put them in. Sitting in the incubator ready to go any time.
