Orbital Live at the Open'er Festival (2012)

G'day from a new fan. I was a metal kid in school, then a rap guy after, and aside from The Prodigy and a few others during the grungey 90s, electronic music never really grabbed me. Fast forward to 2019 (yes, I'm late to the party), and I saw Orbital play during the Adelaide Fringe Festival (at the Royal Croquet Club) - and I was only there because I love the Severed Heads, who opened for them. Started off as a super chill outdoor show at dusk, sitting on the grass with a beer, the Severed Heads warmed us up slowly - gently raising the temperature and the tempo, before leaving the stage and leaving us wanting more. A little time passes, another beer while mingling with friends new and old, and then Orbital hit the stage. I had no idea what to expect, having probably heard a track or two by accident in the preceding decade or two. They genuinely blew me away with a freaking amazing show! The lights/multimedia was stunning, and the music just absolutely kicked arse at every moment. They had us in their thrall throughout the set, bringing us up, down, around and back again. I became an instant fan - they're never far away in my Spotify queue. Thanks for existing Orbital, I hope I get to see you perform again

The 2012 era tour is probably my favorite live setlist Orbital has ever done. I'm a huge Wonky fan. Been a fan since Snivilisation. This tour had the right balance of newer tracks and classics. Plus the classics were updated nicely with their 2012 sound. I love this.

Yeah - sound was not up to spec - given it was pulled from an 8 year old recording either it was early digital with a limiter at 14 bits, or the tapes degraded. Still cool to watch, but I've got phone videos (srsly - check my 'band' playlist) with better sound. (LG V40 FTW)

Having listened to both tonight, (and these are my favourite band) but this sucks compared to their earlier live appearances. KZbin search ‘orbital live glastonbury’ for example. This is stale in comparison. Im not one of these ‘old timers’ professing everything was better in the 90s, go listen!
