I moved to Orca about a month ago and absolutely love it. I didn't mind Cura, but not having all settings in one massive laundry list on the side that I have to scroll through is nice. I also really like the device tab so I don't have to flip back and forth to a web browser to see what is going on in my Sonic Pad and two printers. Awesome video as always. I learned a few things today I had no idea Orca could even do that I should definitely be using!

One tip about the portable Zip. It's a best practice to remove any .DLL file from the original folder before copying in the new version. Depending on the version of the new .DLL files from the updated version, you could end up with conflicting .DLL files in the folder, leading to what developers call DLL hell. It may not hit you evry time you do the copy, but it's only a matter of time befor eit does, leaving you scratching your head about why things are broken.

1 setting i have yet to find in orca slicer that cura has his an infil multiplier, love using it because it makes prints quiet strong without using a crap load of infil (think using 3 lines of infil instead of one so your infil is 1.2mm thick instead of 0.4 for a standard nozzle).
@wils4219 Жыл бұрын
Infill line width? In superslicer you could put it in a % of nozzle width too
@nobodytoyou4887 Жыл бұрын
@@wils4219 Does infill width just push more plastic to make the width or does it add more infill lines? If it's the former that might run into an issue where I'm printing to fast and can't melt material fast enough, if it's the later then that's exactly what cura does and worth looking into.
@cy-one Жыл бұрын
@@nobodytoyou4887 *"If it's the former that might run into an issue where I'm printing to fast and can't melt material fast enough,"* Probably not an issue. I'm not using Orca rn, just the base Bambu Studio, but therein the print speed is limited by the maximum flow set in the filament options. If you set that to the _actual maximum flow_ your rig can achieve, then the printing will never outpace how fast you can melt your filament.

What I want to see in slicers is a command to straighten the model along x or y on the plate. Some people convert their models slightly rotated so that it will fit on smaller plates, butt on odd angles and it is difficult to revert the rotation.... it is useful when you want to split a model, or want to resize only in one direction.
@henkdevries2971 Жыл бұрын
As a work around, until this feature is implemented, wouldn't it be possible to use 'place on face' and rotate 90⁰? It's tedious, but should work, right? 😅

The only things I don't like about Orca, and feel free to correct me if I'm wrong; No option to add an additional wall every other layer, I don't know how much this actually helps with strength and getting better adhesion between walls and infill, but in my brain, it makes sense, and I miss is. Less options for adaptive layer height than Cura. No option to choose which printer to send a print to, if more than one printer is assigned to an IP address (I have two Ender 3 V2s running Klipper off a Raspberry pi), although this is a small gripe, as I'll usually just have Fluidd open in my browser and dragging and dropping gcode files is just about as easy.
@santiagopostorivo Жыл бұрын
The adaptive layer functionality is pretty similar to prusa slicer, which is far from what cura offers. But I do not use it that much, but when I need it, I just switch to Cura.

Looks good though different than the one I downloaded some time ago. It was so confusing to try and find anything that I ended up not using it. I normally use Cura except for fixing non-watertight models. I was happy with Cura until recently when somehow it got corrupted and would no longer slice with supports. I had to delete the two folders in the appdata directory which fixed the problem, but then all my custom settings and profiles were gone and I had to recreate them. I might try Orca Slicer again depending on if they have a profile for the Ender 5 S1.

Thank you... It's inspired me to look at changing, but after spending hours setting up Cura Profiles... is there a way to convert .curaprofile files so they can be imported into Orca? According to a site I found, Curaprofiles are zipped inside the file, making the format incompatible with JSON (Orcaprints file type) I know I'm being lazy - but I don't really feel like manually copying 6 different profiles from Cura to Orca. Any Suggestions?

Hi and thanks for creating so many videos that have helped me using various slicers like Prusa slicer for my Tenlog TL-D3Pro idex printer. From what you said in this video, Orca does not currently support two print head printers or the paint on colour facility in the Prusa slicer. Are you aware of any other slicers that support two print heads and has the paint facility that Prusa has? This is one of the limitations where I think OrcaSlicer has regressed compared with SuperSlicer. You can of course create or modify your own, but the filaments or settings presented for your printer are only those that the maintainer thinks they would use. For me, eSun TPU is available for a lot of printers, but not for my K1. I have to add my own.

I use Repetier to talk to all my printers, so my main slicer can talk to everything already. I would love to find a slicer that does everything... WELL. Simplify3d's new release is very very good. It just works. It is not as tunable as other slicers, but it works. It just works. That said, what makes them so good, their slicing algorithm, is biased in that you can have models where it just won't see parts... weird, but reproducible. Cura has some "plugins" that suit special needs. It also has a great set of calibrations and primitive stuff. Lastly, Prusa. Their slicing algorithm is also different, and sees things very different than Simplify3d or Cura. Something invisible to S3d the other see. SuperSlicer -was- good, even great for a while, and then Prusa and Cura had releases with new things that SS didn't... and combined with some internal struggles and...well... they are behind All these rants are mine, just a low level,Hobbyist with no patience
