The level of intelligence this took was scary to think about. 1. The orca knew the bird liked fish 2. The orca understands the concept of bait 3. It had to understand that the bird would be intimidated if it was to close 4. It analyzed the birds response based on how close the it was and made changes 5. The scariest thing is the orca had forethought and INTENT to grab the bird wtf...

@Falcorianism Not common. Yes, most animals are smart, but they all rely on their own body to hunt. Very few make use of tools to aid them, and that is where animals like the Orca, Octopus and certain Primates shine. These are a notch above others.

@Falcorianism y'know tool use is one of the rare ability in animal kingdom and also what made us human an apex in the past. That's why it's really mazing considering Orca's doesn't just use fish as tool, but also orchestrated a scenario to catch a bird using some fish it left. It's so rare to see animal utilize tools to hunt and even rarer to see it using it like a concept of trade itself.

I've watched a few documentaries about orcas, and multiple people involved with outfits like SeaWorld and whatnot stopped working in that field primarily because they realized how substantial their intellect was, including mourning the capture of young orcas almost like a funeral. They wouldn't leave the area and were emitting disturbing sounds for hours on end. The fisherman in the documentary realized he wasn't dealing with normal fish intelligence from watching how they reacted and couldn't do it anymore.
