I could definitely relate to your "pageant dad" comment when showing your Green Flash. It's a pretty proud moment to enter one of your leafy friends into a show and win a ribbon. I use neem as a preventative, but it does make the plant a little more light sensitive. I love your interactions with the vendors, it's pretty entertaining.

Love your shirt and the video too. I will be visiting Ofe's when my son visits at the end of the month. As I mentioned before I am a transplant from the Redlands and looking forward to the field trip visiting Ofie, Santony etc and also get some Cinnamon rolls too. Wish I could visit during one of the shows but will see what happens next year.

Sounds like you are embarking on some great fun! Let’s see what’s happening when you’re here. There usually something being held. Now it’s a bit quiet. Spring and summer is when there is allot happening in Redlands.

Hi Sir Nelson! I would like to stress a point that Vandas are of three types: terete, semi-terete, and strap leaf. The one shown earlier in your video beside the mokara ( the one with white flower with a hint of light yellow at the bottom)is a vanda , too.. one that can be grown in full sun. The ones you and Blanca fondly call a “vanda” in your videos are strap leaf… In my country, we refer to it as vanda strap.

Interesting. Never heard of those terms here in Florida. Thanks for sharing that. 👍🏼

Another great video which made me wanting to be there! I had to laugh when you complimented Josh on his labeling: months ago, after watching one of your videos, I ordered, from him, a new kind of “Maxillaria” you had featured on that video. It’s supposed to bloom more often than the “original” Maxillarias. Well, he sent me a tiny, tiny plant, rootless and NO tag😩. It, now, has roots, is still pretty tiny and I will be able to make a tag since I have the name on the order! (Just need to find the order😱) Merry Christmas Nelson and Luis🎄
@naturenel2 жыл бұрын
Awe. It happens sometimes. Tags do get lost allot. I base it on the amount of orchids a grower has with no tags. As far as what I witnessed, Josh is one of the ones that usually has tags in all his orchids at the shows. Perhaps you should run that by him. Remember we are only as good as our improvements. The customer’s input is very valuable in improving one’s business. I’m sure if you reach out to Josh and explain that, he would have most likely corrected the issue.
@jaxjazz812 жыл бұрын
It's Max. Mem. Ben Berliner. Sometimes I tape the tags to the paper that I wrap the plant in. Many people don't see it and throw it out with the paper. As for the size of the plant, it's exactly as described on my website, with photos, so there shouldn't have been any issues there. If you ever have any issues feel free to text or call. I'm pretty reasonable, but I can't help if you never contact me.
@bibicheknauf41632 жыл бұрын
@@jaxjazz81 thanks for letting me know what it is so that I can make a tag. As I told you, it was not an issue since I could, eventually, find what I ordered and, for the size, I was not complaining. The reason for mentioning it was, because of the small size, I didn’t think it could be identified with a photo. But, once again, thank you very much for giving me the name of the orchid. By the way, I LOVE your lily pads and my Bulbophyllums even more!

Nelson, is the cold snap coming down as far as you? If so what are your plans for the or hids? ❤️ Thanks for a great video
@naturenel2 жыл бұрын
I kept mine outside. I did not bring them inside. We were in the high 40’s for about 2 days. It also rained. I have not watered my orchids in 3 days. The weather has been very cold and damp. Watering would just hurt the orchids more in this weather. Everything looks really good as of now. I’ll have to wait and see if there is no slow effect due to the weather. In my Quicktent I did put a heater. I have most of my bulbophyllums there. I’ve heard they are less tolerant of cold weather. So I kept them in the low 70’s in the greenhouse.

Make sure it gets plenty of sun. Also feed it every week with 1/2 teaspoon per gallon of 20-20-20. That should help it to spike.

Nelson; "Superthrive" is a _Hormone *NOT* a fertilizer.
@naturenel2 жыл бұрын
True. They use kelp as a natural hormone. But I sometimes mix it with my fertilizing so I always think of it as fertilize. That stuff is so potent. I’ve learned that only 8 drops a gallon is plenty.
