Orchid Care in rainy season ||JAMAICA||

In today’s video I will share with you just how I take care of my outdoor orchids during the rainy season. We are expecting a lot of rainfall this weekend due to a tropical depression that is out. In order to protect my orchid blooms these are some of the things I do.

Your Vandas are on a whole other level of amazing! You truly keep it green💚 I can’t agree with you more pre spraying before a big storm and after the storm. Here in South East Homestead is extremely humid and wet in the rainy season. Fungus is very present. It has to be hit with the hard stuff. But I’m intrigued about adding the food in with the fungicide. Definitely saves doing twice. Great video🤗

Hello Nelson, it good hearing from you. As it is now we are having a similar issue now in my neck of the wood with humidity and wet weather as this time of the year we get rains almost every afternoon. So we have to ensure weekly treatment. It can be a lot of work, but off course we have to do whatever it takes to keep our orchids blooming and beautiful. Beautiful orchids. I wondered about rain. I only have two orchid plants which I put outside for the summer months. I had them undercover but recently put them in the rain. Rain water always makes my regular plants flourish but I am worried about root rot on the orchids.

Hi Jude, yes the rain water will also help the orchids to flourish. However, the key is to allow your orchid to dry out in between watering.

I really enjoy taking care of it and so it doesn't feel like work. 😊 We are so grateful that the storm has moved away from us, but we are still getting lots of rain from it and light to moderate wind. So sorry to hear of the flooding it caused in your homeland and hope that persons who have been impacted is able to pick up the pieces. Here too we anticipate that flooding may occur in the lower and southern parts of the Island. We keep our fingers crossed that no lives will be lost. This tutorial is so neat, and timely!! I never realised that these fungicides could be mixed all together!! I use Neem Oil as my fungicide. I will check our garden centres here in SLU for the "Mancozeb". I did notice that one of my "just released" Dendrobium Bigibbum blooms (white with a small pale pink/mauve centre) is a little mal-formed and has a couple spots. I did not realise that it's because of the heavy rains. Thank you so much for this tutorial - it has been saved for future reference. And the batt operated sprayer - da Bomb!!

Hey there Lyn, yes the fungicide can be mixed with the insecticide and the fertilizer as well. Some persons prefers to use them separately, but it doesn't harm the plants if you mix them. A rule of thumb though is to read the labels and they most times will say if they are compatible with other chemicals and or which you should not mix them with. Please note that Mancozeb is the active ingredient of the fungicide and so you may get the same thing under a different brand name such as 'Diathane' etc. I think the battery operated sprayer for a gardener is the best thing since slice bread. Lol. I love it. It makes my life easier. One love from Jamaica. 😄🥂💖🌴

Hello Arun, you are most welcome. pH -Plus is actually a water conditioner as well as a adjuvant. Of course you know that the plants uses the fertilizers best if the solution is at a pH of about 5.5. So the water conditioner will aid in adjusting the alkalinity of the water. Hence the pH plus works 2 fold. It is manufactured by (MAI) Manufacturing Arm International Inc. in the USA. Hello Loretta, we are so grateful that the TS Ian is moving west away from us. Really happy it did not affect you negatively either. We never know what the outcome may be and so we have to just prepare. The Catts really would not manage too much rain and wind at all and so you did the best thing. I took in my Phals as well as those are so delicate and would not manage the wind at all. All and all we have to just give thanks and pray for the other places that may be in TS Ians path. Hey Lyn, I usually use my cocktail as I mix it as it may looses its potency when you leave it for awhile. I guess a few days may not hurt though but if and when I do that I mix them individually. So if it's fungicide I don't add anything else to it. Blessings!
