My goodness. Those vandas are so lush and stunning 🥰 Thanks for the update and bummer that you lost one to overwatering, but overall your plant sitter did a great job. I’m pretty sure I’d come home to a pile of dead plants if I had someone care for mine. Haha. Plants are looking so leafy 💚

Thank you very much! Do you know how long you would be able to leave without anyone looking after your plants? Have a very nice Sunday! :)
@HerebutNot4 жыл бұрын
The longest I’ve gone is 10 days. The seedlings need special treatment to last that long. I put them in dome but they need to dry out a couple days before going in or they get rot. So it’s a process. Haha.

Overall your plants seem to have survived fairly well during your absence. So sorry that you lost some. Your blooms are gorgeous! So nice to come home to I am sure! The video of your vacation travels was wonderful and so beautiful. Just stunning! The mountains and the bit of running water. So refreshing. I am sure your plants are glad to have you home again. Sorry but I cannot help with the houseplant issues. I do hope you find some answers. Have a great week!

Thank you very much for your kind words, Lucy! I'm glad you liked the vacation footage, too. :) I have ordered some predatory mites to get rid of the thrips problem, because I've noticed that they were eating up my houseplants, too. Ugh. Anyway, I hope you are doing well. Have a very nice Sunday! :)

Your collection is awesome. And I admire your patience in tending to them. I didn’t grow any plants for several years, because I wanted to raise my children and be able to take off with them any time. Now that I have started growing orchids again, and I need to be gone from Mumbai for a few days, I leave them to my poor husband who tries his best, but invariably ends up doing more harm than good. It’s got its advantages though. I usually leave my plants with him to go home to check on my tenant who is an orchid seller! Cheers to you.

Thank you very much for your kind words. I'll keep my fingers crossed your husband is going to get used to his new role as a plant sitter. Having an orchid selling tenant sounds fantastic to me. :D Happy growing and have a very nice Sunday! :)

Great update :) I decided to treat my hoyas and peperomias more like orchids, maybe more like phals. They can be epiphytic I think. Also, I have about 12 pinguiculas grown in high light, medium light, same watering which is to sit in water, and the only ones that became elongated is the one that split into 3 plants and those babies started growing too high and a lot of the roots were not reaching the soil. So I assume the elongation is from low water levels. I just repotted them so I'm pretty sure with the roots reaching more moisture they'll stop elongating, we'll see. So I think either too low light or water. Thanks!
@bumblebeesorchids34083 жыл бұрын
Oh yes, low water levels could very well be the culprit for the elongation. I'm still getting used to caring for my new houseplants. So far the hoyas are doing well while I keep struggling with the Peperomias. Happy growing and stay well! :)

Please show more n more of Swiss Alps and other terrains in different seasons. Even short hiking videos are fine. May be some day I will get a chance to visit.

I don't do it as often since most viewers are here for the orchids. But sometimes I just cannot help and have to share some footage which I will continue doing in the future. I'll keep my fingers crossed you'll have a chance to visit one day.

We have actually just returned from vacation, and out hieroglyphica had also been in bloom! we manage to go on vacation by asking a neighbor to come once a week and add a little bit of water to each pot. The are inside decorative pots but its so hot here in the summer nothing ever rots. the few mounted orchids i have i leave in a tray with lots of moist sphagnum. we have had some losses over the years but nothing major.

Mine must have found themselves in quite a sweat lodge during the vacation. :D It's so good to have neighbours, friends or family helping out. Happy growing and have a very nice Sunday! :)

Thanks for another great update, Bumblebee! I am in love with your Phal. Princess Kaiulani! The colors are to die for, let alone the fragrance! Sorry for your peperomias. I don’t have such small-leaved peperomias. They seem to be quite fussy, aren’t they? My four peperomias with bigger leaves are doing well with minimal care. Thanks also for showing us some footage from your holiday. It is now a tradition. :) For this summer, I also went to the mountains, a few days in Switzerland and a few days in Italy. A staycation is nice, too!
@bumblebeesorchids34084 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if those small-leaved peperomias are fussy in general or if I just don't get what they need. The Peperomia prostrata was doing very well until something hit it and I know what it was: thrips. Ugh. At least my Watermelon peperomia is having a good time. We love the mountains, 17 days of deep relaxation. I hope you're doing well. Have a very nice Sunday! :)

I was so surprised when I saw the title about your plants being over-watered! Now I see it wasn’t you, lol. I’ve felt your success with your phals is due in part to your conservative watering practices. I’ve always been an over-waterer and it is the kiss of death for summer blooming phals in my environment. I’m working hard to reform my ways thanks to your example and having much more success now. Thank you!
@bumblebeesorchids34084 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment! :) I'm glad to hear you have been able to adjust your watering. I'm still adjusting various factors like pot sizes and medium etc. I've always been more of an under-waterer and noticed that my orchids are quite tolerant, but don't appreciate going through extremes like this. Have a very nice Sunday! :)

I think I had similar kind of cattleya: Cattleychea Siam Jade 'Avo'. It came to me half accidentally. I hadn't ordered it, but there was some mix in our group order, which we in orchid society do every year and this was one of the extras and I agreed to take it upon me. :) Happy growing, hope those orchids bounce back from the over watering.
@bumblebeesorchids34084 жыл бұрын
What a nice coincidence! I'm curious to smell it when it blooms for the first time. The orchids have bounced back very well except for the few that didn't look happy when I filmed the video. Happy growing and have a very nice Sunday! :)

I had bad experience with peperomias as well, they seem to be very fussy when even a little overwatered they die.
@bumblebeesorchids34084 жыл бұрын
I'm sorry to hear that! My Watermelon peperomia is doing surprisingly well, the Peperoma prostrata is suffering badly from thrips. Ugh. I hope yours are going to recover. Have a very nice Sunday! :)

Have you tried beneficial insects, such as green lace wing larvae against thrips infestation?
@bumblebeesorchids34083 жыл бұрын
Hi Albert, I've tried predatory mites with no effect. Maybe the air was too dry for them to thrive. I haven't tried green lace wing larvae yet, though. Happy growing!

Hi Svetlana, sorry for replying so late. I'm sorry to say I don't have the keiki anymore, but in case there's another one we could think about a little plant swap or so. :)
