Glad you mentioned Acclad primer being laquer based. My brother recommended AK interactives primer and microfiller and it's great stuff and like you said, hard to go back to the poly urethane ones like vallejo afterwards. But he didn't tell me it was solvent based and when searching Acclad primers, even their own website isn't clear on if the primers are solvent based. So when I first used them through the airbrush, I suddenly had to rush to open windows as I was getting chest pains from breathing it in. *Pros: +* Vastly superior adherence to different surfaces compared to the water based acryllic ones. *+* Great drying time and easy application and dilution (in the case of the ak interactive one with xtreme cleaner). *+* Much more hard wearing, almost or on parr with rattle can primers. *+* Goes on much more smoothly and with less issues than the water based counterparts. Less of a tendency to clog in the brush, orange peal on the model or go on unevenly or speckled. *+* Unlike rattle can primers, the smell of the solvents will fade from the miniature much faster if left in the open to breath, talking just a few hours, where rattlecan primed miniatures can take days or weeks to lose that strong opressive scent of solvent that hangs around them. *Cons: -* If you already have bottles of the vallejo or other brands kicking around, well you probably aren't going to want to go back to them. *-* An extractor fan isn't going to be enough for using these safely indoors, nor is opening windows going to be a solution. In order to use these safely indoors you need to take the plunge, if you haven't already and get yourself a respirator mask and filters. *-* Because they aren't water soluable, you need to get a bottle or two of the thinner/cleaner to not only thin the primer, but also clean it out of your airbrush and airbrush cup or anything else you spill it on after use. Important to note here that the thinners for the AK interactive one at least did melt some plastics, now you shouldn't need to worry about melting your models even as you prime them, but do keep in mind if you spill any or have vulnerable plastics laying around your workspace.

lunahula awesome post mate a great write up on lacquer paints.

Well worth getting if you are willing to invest in the safety equipment. All the benefits of rattle can adhesion, with the control of and precision of an airbrush. Also Acclad Primer & Microfiller direct from Acclad on ebay is remarkably cheap, so whether you're modeling hobby or business, Acclad has you covered for buying in bulk.

This was so helpful! I tried a bunch of different ways from normal brush painting to dry brushing but nothing turned out right, it was either too orange or left brush marks everywhere. Painted 60 marines and 3 dreadnoughts up to the gloss varnish stage and the highlights look great, thanks a lot!

I just wanted to give you a huge shout out and say thanks! Thoroughly enjoy watching every single video you post. I have been following you for quite sometime and you helped me start airbrushing. I just picked up the complete minitaire airbrush range and I have a couple companies of salamanders that I really want to do justice. I know this is a long shot and I don't expect you to do it haha but it would be wicked cool if you could paint a salamander, but with a twist. I don't know if you have access to it but if you could use the main color as D6-151 (Fresh Grass) from the minitaire paint range and go from there I would be over the moon haha. I would love to see what you would use as a primer (im assuming allclad [which im going to order some when payday gets here in a few hours haha]), low lights, highlights, and all the different techniques you have been doing. I would love to see you use oilbrushers on a salamander as well haha! I love the look of D6-151 but when it comes to all the other techniques needed, I would love to see your recommendation! You have truly inspired me to airbrush and break the mold of the typical 1 line paint range. Since watching you I have purchased the badger patriot airbrush and whole setup needed, vallejo game color, and air range, minitaires entire airbrush range, some P3 and MSP paints. I plan on ordering Ammo of Mig oilbrushers, the thinner, allclad primer and after this video those metalic paint ranges. Thanks for all you do OPN!

I'm using your videos to start airbrushing and model painting. They're really informative, so thanks a lot! If I may ask, what's the ratio for water to paint when using acrylics in the airbrush?
@OrcPainterNerd7 жыл бұрын
TEM006 glad my videos are proving helpful. different types of paint have different paint thickness so the easiest way to thin paint is to add as much water to get the paint to resemble single cream in thickness. If to thin it will run and pool on the mini if to thick it will not spray out of the airbrush. You will get the feel of thinning down the paint as you learn to airbrush 😃

Great video, as always. I do have one question though. I recently got my uncles old airbrush (Evolution Two in One) and have been enjoing painting with it, but I couln't figure out a good way to get the citadel paints into the airbrush. I always end up waisting a few drops. Do you have any tips?
@OrcPainterNerd7 жыл бұрын
jabumaho gw paint pots are horrible vest way to do it is ro use a pipette and transfer that way but I generally just pour from the pot.

Cheers! You do use some less well known brands of paints. Do you find the Mig washes much better than regular oil based paints thinned with white spirit?
@sneekeejedi7 жыл бұрын
This is super helpful! I did have one question - maybe I missed your explanation. Lots of other miniature painters thin down their paints before application but I noticed you left them really thick - mostly the metallics and brown. Any reason why? I'm concerned about losing detail, but I noticed you got full coverage in one coat.
@OrcPainterNerd7 жыл бұрын
sneekeejedi I do thin my paint down but not as thin as seen people. I don't loose any detail in the way I paint so as long as you think a little you should be fine.

Greetings from Ryza I have recently discovered your wonderful data vault 📹💽🗃 aka YT channel📺 great stuff bud 👌😇👍👍 working my way through some cracking stuff many uploads to my own cognis data crypt 📺💻🔌📲 can I ask? the vallajo varnish have you had much success abusing it on? only I don't have a air brush yet and hoping to get one in the next few months (Mrs said no minis didn't say out about tools 😉) In the mean time looking at buying the vallejo polyurethane varnish set. Gloss, satin and Matt but don't want to screw up the bits in painted so far 🎛
@OrcPainterNerd7 жыл бұрын
I have used the acrylic gloss varnish hand brushing and watered it down a little. regarding the Vallejo polyurethane varnish I bought the gloss version but it did not airbrush very well so went back to there acrylic varnish.
