I honeslty kinda miss this balance of serious/comedy story. OMD1 nailed it, you were in a doomed situation but still had its moments of levity and fun, till the Warmage/Maximillian slowy began to realize how bad the Order's situation, due to the Sorceress's Betrayal was and ended it in a bittersweet note while showing the Warmages growth. OMD2 briefly touched upon it, but I think it kinda missed the mark near the End/2nd Half... in one of the fortresses lvls intro we see Warmage, Sorceress and the Master talk about why the latter reopen the Rifts... yes Natural Disasters, Plague and Famine suck, but the constant risk of the Orcs is arguebly bigger, wich the Warmage and Sorceress both point out, only for the Master to silence them and jsut continue what hes doing, saying that they could have hold the Orcs off for generations (since teh Rifts help Warmages live for centuries)... and this point is never discussed again. OMD3 kinda touches back on this point with the Idea of controlling the Orcs, something someone in the past did and is doing before teh Sorceress and points out how the idea is extremly dangerous and chaotic, since one cant generate enough Mana from the Rifts to controll them, only guide them. But the idea of closing them or coming up with a better solution is never really touched again. What also saddens me is that in the 1st OMD its clear that the Rifts can increase ones Intelegence, so someone like the Warmage slowy began to realize the problems, while the Sorceress become more powerhungry and mad in a way. Wich is something that happens to the Villain in OMD3, they disapear for several centuries and then go mad due to teh Rifts and trying to controll a NEAR ENDLESS HORDE... I kinda wish this was more explored (unless Unchained did, but that game is dead from the looks of it).

The original game had such a good story. Sadly it was ruined by Orcs Must Die 2....
