From what I understand, the reason specifically Orcus, Demogorgon, and Graz'zt are always fighting is because they're the 3 strongest. So, while others might want the title "Prince of Demons" and the power it comes with, Graz'zt and Orcus are the only 2 that can really even try to take it.

Isn't the eternal conflict between Demogorgon, Orcus, and Graz'zt simply a matter of them being the three biggest demonic powers? It never goes anywhere because none of the demon lords can decisively destroy one of the others without weakening themselves to the point that the remaining demon lord would finish them off. Also a very convenient situation for the yugoloths that the demon lords use to bolster their ranks and who almost certainly have a hand in ensuring the stalemate with the demon lords continues. Those crafty mercenaries love a good prolonged war.

20:59 What it means is that it is a way to stack the powers of the wand. In the first 2 volumes, the creator of D&D wanted the main bad guys to constantly search for a way around limitations. One of the limitations was stacking an objects, bonuses and buffs. By adding curses that are actually buffs, they can have an object stack all of the bonuses it gives to anyone. Whether the bad guy or the good guy.

Several D&D editions: The demon lords aren't gods. Also demon lords' domains, powers and history: more divine and detailed than the whole paragraph of lore we get on the domains of actual gods.

Lol right! I think its more that they're basically gods but within the realms of being overcome by mortals. True divinity is being able to perceive and function on a higher level of reality, while demi-powers like Demon Lords and Archromentals only get a taste of it

Perhaps this is because the Gods are fundamentally unknowable to mortals, while Demons and such have one foot in mortality so we can understand them enough to have things to talk about them.

Nice treatment of Orcus. To answer to the disconnect on the 1e curses bestowed by the Rod of Orcus, if you refer to the 1e DMG, in the Magic Items section (starting on pg121) there is a list of the known Artifacts /Relics. They are all detailed therein but only generally. The DMG itself doesn’t spell out all powers / curses bestowed. Rather there is only an ascribed number of such. The idea was that these ultra-powerful magical items would be different between campaigns and game worlds. Hope that helps.

There’s a lot of interesting things you can do with the lawful bureaucracy of hell, but there’s so much more variation and weirdness you can do with the chaotic abyss.

At least in 1e he did, I have no idea what he was paying him though lol. In some texts it says Pazuzu rules over the skies of all the Abyss, not just his layer, so that could play a factor.

_Fast Healing_ works the same as a _Cure Wounds_ or _Inflict Wounds_ spell in 3.5E, but it heals the specified amount every round. Unlike with _Regeneration_ effects, _Fast Healing_ doesn't replace lost limbs, gouged out eyes, et cetera.

Its a very secondary point in the video, but : I hear someone bash on the monster spellcasting design introduced in MPMM, I like. Otherwise, nice video as always.

That’s fair, I just wasn’t a fan and I know there was some initial backlash from the community when it was first introduced. I think it definitely makes things easier for the DM, but for some of the monsters it is just objectively better numbers-wise to snipe with the same ability as opposed to using their unique abilities and named spells, which I think makes for boring combat. Although a good DM can easily fix this by just using the spells and abilities instead of sniping every round.

The 4E item write-up for the Wand of Orcus can be found in in the adventure E3: Prince of Undeath. It's a sentient +6 Lifedrinker Mace that has a bunch of crazy powers including +6d6 damage on a critical hit, a 29th level Wizard spell, and the ability to instantly reduce a target you hit with it to 0 hit points once per short rest. It can also blast the wielder and every creature within 15 feet with a daze and weaken effect once a day if you make it mad and raise you as a dread wraith if you hit 0 HP.

@@Genghis_Sean If it makes you feel any better, I have no idea where you found the 4E lore on Thanatos. I had assumed it was in the Demonomicon with the rest of the detailed layers of the Abyss but apparently not!

@@andyenglish4303 Ya the Demonomicon unfortunately doesn't touch on Thanatos. I found my info on the Manual of the Planes and the Monster Manual for 4e.

In 3.5 fast healing worked a lot like regeneration but was more limited. You could heal but you did NOT regrow/ reattach limbs or organs and if you were reduced to -10 hit points you were dead whereas something with regeneration could come back as long as some tissue remained.

Fast Healing lets you recover X amount of HP a round. Regeneration treats all damage as non-lethal unless bypassed (like fire vs trolls), and lets you recover however much non-lethal damage dealt equal to your Regeneration number. Advantages of Regeneration are the fact that you can reattach limbs, and when you get to -10 HP or worse on damage that does not bypass your regeneration, you don't die, unlike with Fast Healing. If this comes across as obnoxiously convoluted, there is a reason they dropped this in later editions.

Man orcus is so haxxorz he can be dethroned and killed and then just pick up where he left off cause the gameline prefers the status quo. But it’s cool getting info on one realm. They should spend more time making new realms though rather then just always coming back to the same olds.

I got burned out of them, also they just weren’t doing well (way less views than my other videos). I’ll eventually go back and finish them but I wanted a break. I spent almost 2 months on those and only got 1/3 through them.
