I'm an order selector for a union shop and it's one of the best paying jobs I've ever had in my life. I can make more than with my last full time job in a day. On top of bonuses, incentive pay, holiday pay, discounts and employee raffles. Quick tip for new employees: Interlock your pallet's boxes to ensure that your pallet is strong and sturdy, park your power worker near the spot your selecting from to be quicker, and when you select a box be sure of where you're going to put it at, set it down and keep it moving. The more time you take making adjustments, the more time it eats up towards your incentive and slows you down. When in doubt, wrap your pallet! It takes more time to pick up fallen cases than to wrap it. So just do so when you get a chance as you go (although with more experience you'll be able to build a pallet that can stand on it's own before being wrapped). Good luck!

you're still only making $32 an hour tops as an order selector... money isn't really that good for killing your body.
@Andy-im3kj
@Andy-im3kj 3 жыл бұрын
@@sonderevokingbuns That's if you're pushing yourself to go fast. Most of the time you're only selecting for a day or 2 at most and the rest you can be forking, etc. that's not so taxing. Sure you won't be rich but it's better than most of what's out there for entry level work without comparing it to the trades or other types of jobs where you need a relatable education and experience as a prerequisite. Edit: This is how it is usually in our union shop.

@@Andy-im3kj every warehouse I've been at you're picking 15 years until you have the seniority to bid a forklift position. It takes just as long in a warehouse to be proficient at everything as it does a trade and a trade will get you paid way more money and not kill your body And when the cases per hour is 230 you don't really have a choice in going slow

My only problem with this job is the pace/ percentage needed to keep the job. Maintaining a 90% when you get absolutely swamped by big ordered back to back is seriously taxing. I feel like if they simply added 10 minutes to most of the bigger orders, the stress would go down for everyone involved Legit in my first 4 months working I’ve heard so many “vets” complain about the standard just cause it’s almost no room for mistakes. You can’t adjust anything on your pallet or god forbid you’re in a crowded isle, cause then you’re loosing percentages by the second.

@Eric Cruz it's a base rate. I think they cap at 25 or 26 an hour. They schedule you for 5 days, and you have to get a certain amount of minutes for the day. To me, c&s is more relaxed, and you get a break. At mb, you get 3 20 min breaks that aren't clock out breaks. So if you're behind on your minutes, you have to work through your break to hit production. There is no incentive pay. Pallets are easier to build tho but the size of the plastic pallets are half the size of what you're used to. I liked c&s better. More potential to make more money.

*sigh* when are people going to learn? You don't step off the jack until it''s stopped, never back out of the aisle forks first without stopping looking both ways and honking , and never exit the aisle from the front without doing the same. Also, what's up with the shoddy order stacking? By the way, the wrapping should be done from bottom to top. If you wrap the top without securing the foundation, you're screwed. I'm glad he wrapped the whole pallet though. I see people all the time wrap just the bottom or just the top. Nope...doesn't work. If you don't have a solid foundation the whole thing's gonna fall, but even if you do you can't neglect any part of the order. The problem with production goals is they make it way too easy to half-ass things for convenience and meeting the quota. Quantity should always be the first priority...and NEVER stack anything sideways if that's not how it was palletized in the location. One good bump, and BOOM! See ya later, product (unless it's very soft and/or flexible). If I were the customer, I would be appalled at the way a lot of these orders are built. Good, Lord!

At the warehouse where I work box pickers are all either new hires learning the system or forkift operators being punished for running low numbers. It happens a lot, because the training sucks and it's nearly impossible to run good numbers every day because of the way the system is setup. Even though you work alone, you are still being micromanaged, and supervisors expect nothing less than total perfection every nanosecond you spend on the floor, even when you are on your 4th straight week of 8-16 hours of mandatory OT. I work 3rd shift, and we have it the worst out of everyone. Not a single supervisor on graveyard speaks English as their first language. Their English is broken and borderline incomprehensible. It works both ways as they don't understand what you are saying to them half the time either. The pay is great. I earn more than most college graduates, but I continually find myself questioning whether or not its worth it. Both my physical and mental health are taking a hit every day I spend in that frozen concrete and steel hell.

I hate being an outbound loader because the physical demands of the job. Loading goods onto outbound vehicles often involves heavy lifting, repetitive motions, and working in potentially uncomfortable or cramped spaces. This physical strain can lead to fatigue, soreness, and an increased risk of injury, which can make the job challenging and unpleasant over time. Additionally, if the workload is consistently high or if there are unrealistic expectations for productivity, it can exacerbate these physical demands and contribute to feelings of frustration and dissatisfaction with the job.

Triple jack, that's what I operate at my warehouse, running three orders at once can be a little overwhelming at times, my warehouse gives 55 minute goal times for a triple pallet order so you're running 100mph all day

@@darrenvogel8096 I've been doing it for almost 6 years now and the money isn't bad sure it messes up your body but I've learned that if you keep yourself hydrated, have good hand eye coordination and squat more than bend over that you will last 10x longer also I've had to deal with a messier warehouse and we had to climb over pallets and such.

This is easily one of the worst careers anyone could have. It doesn't teach you any practical life skills, kills your body, and you're only making like 60k a year tops. (not counting OT, I know a lot of companies like to milk as much work out of their employees with mandatory). I need to get out of this shit man. Only 30, but 10 years of this and my back already feels like it's 60. Warning any of you that might be thinking about getting in this line of work... find something else. At least with construction there's progression / skills you'll learn that'll help you be handy around the house and shit.

Yeah I’ve said this in another comment but the pay isn’t as “great” as a lot of people act like it is. Most people get into it when they’re college aged, or mid 20’s when a lot of their friends who went to school or learned a trade are making like 15 bucks an hour, so yes it feels like a lot when you’re pulling a 120 making 24 bucks an hour. But over time those people start to advance in career fields and are basically making as much money if not more to do jobs that are not back breaking labor. It’s also hard to go to school or find other career opportunities when you do this kind of work so it becomes a vicious cycle a lot of people get stuck in. I only did it for a few months before I got into loading. In the near future I’m looking to leave the warehouse environment all together
