I just got a Knott's pass and I'm going later today! I heard Parks Bros speculate that all the talk of "Calico is getting a fort" is hinting at a major expansion coming to Knott's in the next year or two. It's rumored they'll be expanding Ghost Town into what is now backstage area between Ghostrider and the parking lot off Crescent St, and will be adding a new major roller coaster.

Yes - I've been going to Knotts for many years and have been to all the Ghost Town Alive's since they started them. A real blast! I try and go once a week but I don't do well in really hot weather so sometimes that doesn't happen for me. For anyone wanting to go, it will continue 7 days a week until August 11. Then it will only be on weekends with the finale (which is always a major, big deal and sets up next Summer) happens on Monday, Sept. 2 which is Labor Day. Also, the characters can change from day to day. The Mayfield family is huge so you never know who will be there. Plus other wonderful townspeople abound.

The Actors that work there are absolutely fantastic. They never once made any of it sound completely scripted. They interacted with anyone that came up to them and anything that happened. I hope they get paid well because they deserve every penny.

I'm so glad to hear you guys do this review and come to that same conclusion. The people at Knott's are putting 110% into it every day. By contrast, the management at Galaxy's edge are holding their people back and forcing them to keep it to a pre-recorded script that a beancounter wrote. One is the plastic, fake illusion of fun, the other is just FUN. ( Knotts )

As someone who works at Ghost Town and Galaxy's Edge it's pretty cool to see Knott's getting some acclaim. The actors for Ghost Town Alive are all fantastic and give the land a truly immersive feel that SW:GE can't compete with even with the massive Disney budget. I hope Disney will invest in more live entertainment in the future. Until then, Ghost Town Alive is the place to be for real immersion and interaction between the two OC theme parks. Oh, and check out the can-can show at the Birdcage Theater, they're pretty great too!

Man, I love how much Knott's has evolved over the years! I think what it comes down to is Knott's doesn't have as big of an influx of people like Galaxy's Edge has so the cast members can take the time to really interact with the guests. I dont think Disneyland could set up something this engaging with people visiting, but I agree, they totally could find a happy medium and have more "events" happen throughout the day and have more characters like droids around. I think too with the original reservation system they were trying to keep all the experiences the same as possible (to be fair to the guests) and now that its just open to the public it would be a good time to start integrating those random events and characters to the park! As always, thanks again for bringing us along! My nostagia always ramps up to a 100 watching you guys go around these parks!

My wife and I loved the experience in the old west town at Knott's Berry Farm when we went last year, and we didn't even get involved in the story as much as you guys did. Even just being in that environment with all the improv actors is so immersive and fun it just brings a smile to your face. I didn't have a clue what Knott's would be like before we visited, but it ended up being the highlight of our Aneheim vacation. I was really hoping Galaxy's Edge would be something like that, but it seems like (so far at least) they've gone more for store building than story building. Hopefully it's still in their long term plan. Either way, I'm still super excited to visit both Disney Land and Knott's Berry Farm again next year for vacation! Would love to buy you guys drinks at Oga's if we happen to cross paths at Galaxy's Edge. 🙂

Ghost Town Alive is the best and most immersive theme park experience in the world. The story lines are interesting, the characters are well developed, the setting is real. It honestly doesn't get much better. Knotts spends so much less doing this event which seems to get bigger and better every year than Disney did developing Galaxy's Edge. However my kids came back to Knotts 5 times this summer just for Ghost Town Alive and they went to Galaxys edge once since it opened and have never asked to go back. My only complaint is that the reveal for next year should happen over the entire closing weekend as the crowds on labor day are insane. Also Knotts should think about a mid summer refresh of the story line to keep the kids interested in coming back and having new things to do.

Funny story, Ken Parks who works now works for Knott's used to work for Disneyland entertainment. he said that many of the interactive concepts used in Ghost Town alive were originally planned for Galaxy's Edge.

You guys were correct about how Ghost Town Alive spawned from Legends of Frontierland. It was the same Imagineer that did both. He was supposed to do a LoF/GTA style project in Galaxy's Edge, but after Bob Chapek destroyed the GE entertainment budget it killed the project. So the guy took his idea to a theme park that knew it's worth, and that was Knotts.

That's all I can remember from that time. Of course,I was only twelve at the time. In 1969 there were a couple of coasters. I don't remember these when I was in College at La Mirada. Of course I was struggling just to stay alive while getting my education.

Well this video was maybe my favorite by you guys! (I actually found myself wondering how the story would turn out...lol!) I had no idea this "town" existed in Knotts berry farms... In fact I've never been to Knotts Berry Farms... And you are correct. I would be more interested in visiting Galaxy's Edge if a random protocol droid or an R2 astromech would show up and talk to you. Or as Kitra said, a bounty hunter would maybe approach you in the cantina in character.... Disney kinda created the "immersive" entertainment park, but they seem to have fallen a bit behind with GE. I went three and two years ago and the people who are the residents of Ghost Town make the celebration of Ghost Town. special. The residents story the first year engaged the guests and got them to help with various problems and provide clues for a multi layered mystery that had different characters depending what day it was be a mysterious person that helped save the town from the bumbling comedic Mayfield family of villains.2 years ago a supposed platoon of soldiers came with news of a fort when they were actually a gang of thieves

When I was a kid my family came here and our train was “robbed” I however thought it was really happening and the “robber” decided to pick on me and hold me captive. I was terrified and I’m pretty sure I was crying! Very convincing stuff for a kid. I think my Mom was mad that they kept picking on me even though I was obviously scared.

Watching this video and some Galaxy Edge videos I have to agree with you guys. GE could use the immersion that Ghost Town has...Building the saber has a story but not everyone is going to spend $200 for that and the Falcon ride seems move of a video game, not sure how's still flying after you guys wrecked it:) I've seen Rey interact with kids and Troopers with the crowd but some type of story line would definitely help Ghost Town does have the Westwood vibe to it and if the story changes that makes it even better. It looks fun indeed and very involving. We can only hope Galaxy's Edge goes to the same direction. Hard to believe, with all the money that Disney has, they have not done this already...maybe when Rise of the Resistance opens...we can only hope.

I’m guessing it wasn’t a money thing but they weren’t sure it would be logistically possible with huge crowds. But I’m hopeful one day it will be more like this.
