If it were me I'd be closing the book and never looking at it again. The answer to question 5, adding up the numbers along the path is a total stitch up - your answer was correct and the answer to question 8, the date of the holy text etc is impossible to ascertain from this map. I don't mind quizzes that are difficult but this one is actually impossible to get the correct answer without researching elsewhere.

Oh, Lindisfarne! Never forget that on June 8th back in 793AD, a group of Vikings selflessly and at great peril to themselves, rescued the treasures of the Lindisfarne Monastery from burning up in a fire after the monks mysteriously and suddenly died. Such an amazing coincidence that they were just passing by at the right time. ;P

Been to Lindisfarne in 2000, from Thorn, Doncaster, on our way to Stirling via the East Coast. With a couple of Citroën 2CV's over the causeway and had to be back before the tide came in. Interesting history and buildings, and shaped hedges in the form of a steam locomotive for instance. And a Peacock by the name of Claxon 😂 We were on our way to the 2CV World Meeting via all interesting sites. Thanks for showing us around and bringing up fun memories Dan!

Actually when you were reading question number 5, "...the other black numbers you pass near...", that word "near" already made me suspicious what they might consider "near". Now we know. For the anagrams, when you were thinking about "Endorsing it", I was literally shouting "Riding Stone" at the screen 😂 (I visited Lindisfarne in 2018)

8/9. Got North East coast too so pleased with your generous marking. Guessed 8 right so only number 3 wrong! Obviously saw Law Scap but thought it only meant the other two. And the 7 IS "near" the path, therefore it counts.

I think the addition of that 'other 7' you are correct. But again there are no rules about the way in which they call out that number alignment. Where #8 is concerned I only knew the 1971 because of the Icon it self. I would have loved to get a copy, but they were when made $1400.00 US at that time. None are on market that I know of and I will never have one. Peace

stitched up again! that 7 definitely does not count! at this point i’d be emailing a complaint! 😄 and it’s an ordnance survey map, i really don’t think general knowledge questions should be in there, anything you can’t ascertain from the map shouldn’t be there. maybe you could ignore those questions in your total 😄

I concur with the comments about the general knowledge questions that are completely unanswerable using anything on the map. It's not cheating to use a search engine. The question itself says "Can you discover the year in which the island finally received a copy". It doesn't specify HOW you have to discover it.
@regd809
@regd809 16 күн бұрын
I agree. It does not say 'Do you know', so we must discover it from somewhere, if not the map then some other research.

The actual quiz is from a book, a real paper book. It's only on Dan's screen because he put it there so we could all see it. If you were doing the quiz as intended, from the book, you do not have google or any other means of researching this.
@origami-unicorn
@origami-unicorn 15 күн бұрын
@@andystokes8702 Yeah, it's not as if Dan could just put the book down and open up a web browser on his phone. Or switch on his computer. WooHoo! No Views 0👍 Nice job this week on the anagrams PS 😒I disagree with Q5 being 44 too, it's on a different path. PPs & you should be able to Google questions like Q8 which are not answered by the Map.
@davidg4288
@davidg4288 15 күн бұрын
I agree in both counts. Dan is definitely correct regarding the numbers on the path so +1 there. And Q8 is "can you determine", it doesn't say you have to use the map, so phone a friend (who has Internet) or ask the audience (who have Internet), or going to the library (who has Internet) seems fair enough. Or just, you know, use your Internet.

As an Aussie I grew up with the (Melbourne) Melways Street Directory. Compares in detail pretty well with the Ordnance Survey Maps for detail and clarity. Spoken to a few map curators who reckon (as I do) that it’s the best street directory in the world. I wish I had visited GB so as to get more of a “feel” for these OS maps.
