History tidbit: My dad's "yearbook" from early 1953 at Camp Roberts has a couple pics of grenade launching with the Garand. The DI is live firing...standing...rifle on shoulder...in an exaggerated posture leaning into the rifle. They were not using that older device you guys were using. They had a whole billboard of the many specialty grenades with the tail section built into the grenade. So one piece unit.

"Ustashas" are Croatian nationalists/extremists, and "Chetniks" are Serbian extremists/nationalists), it got that popular name from this story: in one battle between Ustashas and Chetniks, hand granates falled on Chetniks, from Ustashas side, but Ustashas positions was 300+ meters away from Chetniks, and than Chetniks wondered how someone can throw hand granate that far :S, and than Chetniks debated and concluded, those Ustashas must be drunk and on some heavy drugs wich gave them super powers to throw handd granates 300+ meters! otherwise that's not possible! ...and dont forget to keep your thumb clear from the grip. Wrap it around the grip of the stock and you're in for a luxated or broken thumb, afaik. my father was a medic during his army time back in the 70s and according to him this was a main cause of injury during rifle grenade training.
@earlwyss5204 жыл бұрын
To unload a Garand hold the stock with your left hand, & pull the charging handle back with your right hand (aka "karate chop" it) while cupping the receiver with your palm. When the bolt is all the way to the rear press the clip ejector button with your right thumb,and catch the clip in your right palm as it ejects. I used to own a Winchester manufactured M-1 (don't worry I still kick myself mentally when I think about it) I figured it out the first time I unloaded it, as it seemed to be the most logical way to safely unload it, and keep dirt out of the clip. Also the enblock clip will not hold together with less than 6 rounds. If the clip contains less than 6 rounds you will need to turn the rifle to the right as you retract the bolt and catch all of the rounds & clip in your right hand.

M1 grenade projection adapter attachment that was fitted on the M1 Garand bayonet lug m-7 . It has rings to set range @30-45deg. The cup was loaded with a Pineapple grenade and then the devise loaded on to the grenade attachment on the rifle. The four pronged launcher was designated as the M1. One of these prongs longer and has sleeve to hold the spoon.kept the arming lever from releasing. The unit was then placed on the 22 mm M7 grenade launcher attached to the M1 rifle's muzzle. The user then removed the grenade's safety pin and braced the rifle from a standing or kneeling position. The unit was launched by firing a high-powered blank from the rifle. Inertia caused the holder sleeve to shear off in flight, releasing the lever and arming the grenade. Unlike the m17, impact fuse.The grenade would then explode when its fuze ran out. The grenade's fuze (4.0 to 4.8 seconds) could detonate in mid-flight before it reached its target. However, this "airburst" effect was unofficially reported used to hit targets behind cover or in trenches.

Can you still find launching cartridges? All I've been able to find are ceremonial/noise blanks, and they are sad at launching inert grenades. I found some period documentation on the load data for the launching cartridges, but it references powder types that are no longer produced.
@kylelottridge89394 жыл бұрын
From the can cannon frag grenade video, they were self loading the powder charge in the .223 blanks to increase the range. They found the proper lifting cartridges since they mention it at 14:15, however. Testing could be done on increasing powder loads in blanks until they got the distance they wanted. That'd be my method after doing the research that is out there.

How this adapter actually works. In some manuals it said , it can explode in the air if you put at high angle after fuze burn out which means tab holding the lever got detached after grenade separated from adater but this video show grenade just stuck in the prong untill impact the ground and detached grenade. Which one is true? does adapter in this video are more advance version than what US army use in WW2?
@number36659 ай бұрын
They are using a different type of grenade than the ones used in this adapter during WW2. That's probably why the grenade stayed with the adapter. I think he used the M26 grenade and it was designed to be used with the MK2 Pineapple grenade.

I have one that I fire from a sks yugo. You must make sure the grenade paddle is in the notch, then pull the pin. When the grenade is launched and hits the dirt, it disconnects and the paddle flips off since the pin is pulled. It lights the fuse and then you have a couple of seconds. Or you can leave the paddle out of the notch, pull the pin and quickly launch to get an airburst. I just have dummy grenades so don’t get to see any fireworks

The grenade holder isn't reusable as it goes with the grenade downrange to the point of impact/explosion. The launcher attachment that stays with the barrel/gun is reusable. You know, something ive wondered about for a modern rifle grenade. Would it be possible to make an effective universal grenade? Essentially a HEAT F round. Theoretically this could be done by slipping something like the fragmentation sheath from a potato masher grenade overtop the Anti tank grenade, or something similar. looking over slow mo footage of HEAT RPG rounds, there should be enough explosive mass to the sides to make this idea plausible from a man portable RPG size at the very least. this is likely one of the only places i can ask this without getting on more government lists, but can you guys try making one in a rifle grenade format to see if it works? thanks!

Good news! 'HEDP' 40mm rounds already exists
@johnladuke64754 жыл бұрын
It's not so much a question of possible, as practical. You can have one projectile that does okay at five different jobs. Or you can have five kinds of projectile that are absolutely excellent at one job each.
@Gadamlu4 жыл бұрын
@@johnladuke6475 no doubt. What im interested in is the practicality of such a weapon. likely vs infantry or soft targets its not going to be much better than any hand grenade, like the one they tested previously which was a hand grenade strapped to a launching device. But could it still keep the effectiveness of a hand grenade while still having decent shaped charge potential? Ive seen slowmows of various shaped charges, and it looks like on standard charges, its certainly got enough force to the side of the directed charge to be at least somewhat plausible.
@johnladuke64754 жыл бұрын
@@Gadamlu It would be a neat experiment, that's for sure. But I'd predict three results. 1) An HE round that also kinda fragments, but not well enough to replace a frag round. 2) A frag round that kinda has some high explosive, but just can't do the jobs that an HE round is needed for. 3) The silly Frankenstein device we both want to see, that does both jobs effectively... but is so unwieldy it would never make it past the prototype stage. Admittedly you're right, all three options would make awesome video, and I'd love to find out if I'm wrong.
