That basalt was cool looking. Some looked halloweenish, some looked like old trees or driftwood. Nice!

Idk man I've never rock hounded but I immediately looking at those large beautiful rocks with amazing patterns is a sledgehammer and one good swing. Cool stuff, I went through Bend and stopped at the glass butte east grabbed a couple handfuls of the beautiful black glass (say that fast).

Caregivers were here today at Home to care and Medical Appointments and taking care of paperwork, due recertification for Caregivers. Now able to watch another video of RockHounders. They remind me of some Coral Formations on Guam and the South Pacific.

Cool spot to explore. Such interesting textures and flow patterns on them. I like the sound they make when they rub and grind against each other, too. Good to hear that you have lots of people who cared to check up on you! Sorry, I'm late to watch and reply, buddy. Hope you got the car running. Have a great weekend.

Those drippy, oozey, snakey, bubbly formations are so cool. Your reactions to them are just like a fellow on the Big Island of Hawaii who lives in the neighborhood where Kilauea erupted in 2018. He actually bought a lot that is mostly new lava flow and he gives tours of it along with the other sights on the island that are his primary focus. How cool that we have the same thing here in Oregon. Bummer about your Subaru. I wonder why it happens so often that you get something "repaired" and it goes out on you soon after? 🤔 Great job turning a crummy situation into a chance to explore.

Shame about the "Scooby Doo" Rogue, those are usually very reliabe cars. The farmers & off roaders over here love them. Very cool rock. That stuff looks like stretched bread dough. 👍🏻

Frozen motion lava Very strange and intriguing geology I've always viewed from the perimeter never daring to venture into Good boots are too expensive for possible one time use, a turned ankle isn't fun and the stuff is sharp and abrasive Good stuff can be found around the edge tho' Nice video, thanks

That was.....awesome!! I've never seen anything like that before! Cool!! What is the hardness of that material? Can it somehow be polished up?
@TheRogueRockhound
@TheRogueRockhound 5 ай бұрын
Its basalt so yeah, it could, in theory , be polished. IDK the hardness though. Since its a national monument, I couldn't legally take any...And since I'm an upstanding citizen that respects the law, I def didnt take any ^^ yup, totally left it all there... Definitely didnt take a huge chunk that would look sick in a fish tank...^^

I have head it said that this type of rock will scratch, abrade and chew up good pair of new hiking boots. Is there any truth to that?
@TheRogueRockhound
@TheRogueRockhound 3 ай бұрын
It will absolutely destroy ANY footwear. I believe the best footwear for rockhounding is hunting boots. They are heavier, but provide the support and durability for any terrain. Oiled leather is more resistant to this type of rock compared to synthetics.

is rock collecting permitted ? theres a $$ FORTUNE $$ in aquarium hardscape material there...
@TheRogueRockhound
@TheRogueRockhound 11 ай бұрын
I wasn't positive it was permitted so I didn't grab anything, although I really wanted a few small pieces
@PhoenixRisen63
@PhoenixRisen63 11 ай бұрын
It's illegal anywhere in Oregon to collect for the purpose of sales. You can collect for yourself, and use the rocks in your own aquarium, or sell off your personal collection, but you can't legally collect for the purpose of sales. The exception would be from a mine or on private property. In small quantities, it would be difficult for anyone to prove that it ISN'T from your own collection. A truckload is much harder to justify as collector specimens.

@laurievancurler8728 that's true. I don't sell any of the rocks I collect, only gift them to kind viewers and friends
