In 2016, ""Oregon Field Guide"" introduced you to an isolated population of American pika living in the Columbia River Gorge.
When the Eagle Creek Fire swept through in 2017, about half of those pika colonies seem to have been wiped out.
Three years on, the impossibly cute critters seem to be making a comeback… or are they?

A.combination of researcher and superfan of these little guys sounds like the right scientist in the right place at the right time! As she's moved, I hope Cascade Pika Watch sticks with it.

It's "peeka", with a long E sound. The original language it's in, Tunguse, is also pronounced as "peeka"

To be more precise, it was the policy response to COVID, not COVID itself, that caused the disruptions in access.

Fire is a beautiful cleansing natural way to clean our forests. The forest service’s and their unwise thinking and practices have been detrimental to the health of our forests .

Get a job hippy. Our summers temperature never got over 90 degrees. The past five years we have smashed every heat record. The salmon can't lay eggs when they Spawn because the rivers are too warm. You know nothing.
