we pay for management of our deer elk and other game . So what do they do reintroduce wolfs to deplete the game I say change the wildlife managers of oregon starting at the top.

Right now the federal government formally recognizes that wolves kill 3% of deer elk and bison herds where hunters kill 10% That's not including poachers so probably more up around 13%. Wolves are also only kill 1 out of 44,853 I wouldn't worry more about the cayots, the weather, and the mother rejecting the calf happens a lot more. It's really easy to blame the Wolves but the fact is that there are natural part of this ecosystem and in the years that they were gone before they were reintroduced the deer and Elk herds have overgrazed so much that it's actually eroding river bed, etc. As much as some people don't like them they're really important part of our ecosystem. And the Wolf howl is synonymous with nature. We need to figure out a way to live with the animal and stop being so destructive. Also so short-sighted, the Colorado River is basically going dry and width deer and Elk herds eroding the state of the riverbed. The point is is that things can get much worse and instead of focusing on the one cow that people can't afford to replace, which I get but also you're going to lose more than one cow and that's just part of being a cattle rancher deal with it.

@@jfreid3174 because past generations trapped, and poisoned all the native species of wolf to the US. Though Canada and the US are on the same continent, so if the species hails from North America, I think being 800 miles north is not a big deal. Just getting the ecosystem back to its Natural balance state. So that we don't have deer and Elk herds overgrazing and eroding our landscapes.

@@kyliekylie5547 your facts seem incorrect. The thought is that each wolf is responsible for 22 dead elk/year and you can find that number from multiple sources. @ 1700 wolves that is 37,400 yet I suppose that seems high. The whole issue is introducing a very destructive non-native species where they could have introduced say wolves from Minnesota. With the internet there is plenty of easy research to be done. The Minnesota wolves were suggested for re-introduction but USFWS wanted the Bison killing Northern Canadian wolves. So did we have a Bison problem as well??? Has there ever been in the history of species re-introduction a doubling of an Apex Predators population? Of course not that isn't how Apex species work. Here is another one if we had such Bison killing wolves 150 years ago then why were there so much Bison throughout the Great Plains?? Then with the wolf well recovered past the agreed to and stated goals there were lawsuits to block de-listing and hunting to grow that population more. Does any of this sound like sound science based wildlife management??? The Colorado river goes thru a dessert where overgrazing isn't the problem but instead one of California environmental terrorists draining it much like they have done to Mono Lake. As it concerns a government program it is never about science or the facts it is about politics, emotion and votes.

If you're going to kill them justify it by saying you just like to take things that don't belong to you. Whether you like it or not, apex predators stabilise ecosystems

Can a breeding pair of wolves produce 2 liters per year? And a typical liter is let's say, 6 pups with a 50% mortality. So, with 2 liters per year, that's 6 wolves growing to adulthood, basically another pack being produced every year by one breeding pair. Does this sound reasonable? I think that if it is, then management is going to be a big problem in the near future. Just look next door at Idaho.

It's kind of funny, a VERY LARGE dog came at me when I went to get my mail, it growled and the owner was freaked...I stuck my hand in the dog's mouth. It licked my hand a wagged its tail, the owner was really upset. I have been around 150lb Newfoundlands and Old English Sheepdogs all my life, actually biting a human is the last thing they want to do. Little yap, yap dogs will nip, but won't actually bite.

@@Stephen-cr3sc I didn't say evil, but a hungry wolf will eat you, your dog, your child or anything it sees fit if it deems it the best way to stay alive. A wild animals ingrained instincts ensure they will do whatever they have to do to keep themselves alive. No matter what your idea of compatibility between dogs and humans is...it doesn't apply to wolves, in the wild, who have decimated ungulate populations to the point where they have run out of food and have to look for an easy meal...be it a hunter, hiker, child, dog, cow, horse. Nature doesn't discriminate. Keep the fake news to yourself and your own interactions with wild wolves.
