I wanna take a moment to talk about why i love this song so much and how good it is. I first heard this song in late 2003/early 2004 on a live365 radio station called Audguy's jpop. It was my senior year of highschool, and even tho i didnt understand the lyrics, the nostalgiac tones of this song, from the soulful singing to the simple instrumentation, combined with the fact that i was about to move onto a new chapter in my life, cemented this song as one of deep nostalgia and remembrance in my heart. Sitting here now, eating breakfast some 16 years later during quarantine before i head to work, i finally decided to look up the translated lyrics. And what did i come to find? This song is about moving on to the next stage of your life, saying goodbye to someone you hold dear, and the sincere wish that not only will they do well, but maybe one day, you'll get to see each other again. Thats what ive come to love so deeply about this song and japanese pop music in general: despite language barriers, japanese musicians excel at conveying emotional context thru their work. I suppise thats true of any musician worth their salt, but i've found that, especially when it comes to nostalgia and growth, the japanese excel at it. For more examples of this, listen to 'Tomodachi' by Ketsumeishi, 'One' by Rip Slyme, and 'Bound For' by Chemistry. Thanks for the memories Smap. And thanks to the uploader for sharing this piece.
