Please join for the release of a new book, Vishwa Shastra: India and the World by Dhruva Jaishankar, Executive Director of ORF America. Published by Penguin India, Vishwa Shastra is meant as an introduction to India in international affairs. It describes a long history of India's interactions with the world, from ancient times to the present day. Speaking to a wide audience that includes policymakers, scholars and especially students, the book offers both rich historical context and forward-looking strategies for India. Balanced, comprehensive and rigorous, Vishwa Shastra gives us a clear-eyed perspective on how India might actually define the emerging world order.
The book was released by Samir Saran, President of ORF and Manasi Subramaniam, Editor-in-Chief of Penguin Random House India. A book presentation by the author will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Shamika Ravi of the PM's Economic Advisory Council, Indrani Bagchi, CEO of the Ananta Centre; C. Raja Mohan, Columnist with the Indian Express; and Ashok Malik, Partner of The Asia Group.

I don't agree with this... Father has purely india accent unlike son's mingling US tone.

Congratulations Dhruva Jaishankar, for the book launch and for conducting the session, sharing tit-bits about the content and answering the questions intelligently. The ‘Jaishankars’ are one of those wise and rare ‘Father-Son’ role models! The oblivious next action is ordering the book 👍

16:28 Kissinger did it for years before transforming his views on India in his 2014 book “World Order” described India “a pivot of the twenty-first-century order”

This is the belated revival of the era of Indian classicism . The public intellectuals of yester years especially from the foreign policy and strategic realm were limited partly by the lack of India's heft ( contributing to their suboptimal push to place India in its appropriate global order ) and partly from the vestiges of their own personal conditioning and colonialisation. This truth need not be rubbed in but still has to be acknowledged. The constituency for systemic decolonisation especially of our academia and public discourse has to be openly strengthened. The elephant in the room is the refusal of our elite to buy into our native roots. Let's face it : the long term effects of our foundational preference for the British institutional framework and culture in our bureacracy , foreign policy establishments , Intelligence apparatus and academia etc. not to speak of the political administration will take long time to repair. Our civilisational journey has resumed after s long hiatus. It will be stupid to look forward to just a superficial adoption of our genetic core which has been junked and jettisoned in volitional self judgement. We need to start by acknowledging that and shaking off its effects in a formal rehaul. We need 50X investments in scholarship , research , and also the political will to resurrect a lost Indian narrative. Our elites have to return home. Else we should reject them. Dhruva has just opened the door. We need scores of our best intellectuals to enter that group. The Indian renaissance has just restarted .

Congratulations to the big man! Also, man, retired Indian journos can’t sound more out of touch with common people than when they complain about the Indian taxpayer not funding their travels overseas anymore.

I read an article from 2011 wherein he had mentioned he had become eligible for US citizenship but hadn't opted for it. Idk about its status now though. Neither do I think we're going to hear from them considering how tight lipped they are when it comes to their personal lives. So, ig, we can make of it what we want to.

All this is hot air. Stop talking about 300 BC YOU ARE IN 2024. This nonsensical glorification of thousands of years back is a nice escape from the present turmoil. Good to sell a bookend make some money but useless in actually making a difference in today's world

What's wrong is using ancient knowledge in modern times if it is usefull. Shall we discard 0, since it is an ancient knowledge of Brahmagupta. Many useful strategies are there in Arthashastra too for modern times. U are throwing baby with the bath water.

Not really I understand the frustration due to the lack of the hot air for the geopolitical works coming from India. So True. But that doesn't mean it isn't useful.
