There are SO many more of these throughout the show. My favorite one has to be this scene where Zim and Dib are yelling to each other from across the street. Apparently, the animators were planning on adding traffic in the road between them, but when Jhonen Vasquez heard the audio without the traffic noises, he thought it was hilarious as is. He was SO right. Seriously, the lines from this show are the most quotable things in the universe.

I find it interesting that for 2 season 27 episodes, the show has definitely a major impact on 2000's youth culture, part of that is probably because it technically ran from 2001 to 2006 iirc. with reruns still airing for years afterwards. so it ended up being brief but also spread out. making it feel like it lasted longer than it did

Fun fact! Er... facts. The reason some people freak out so much when they see certain organs, is because they're supposed to be inside you. If you see an organ, that usually means something is very, very wrong. Also, the reason some people get queasy, or feel pain, when watching someone else get hurt, is because our brains often have a hard time distinguishing the difference between it happening to you, or someone else Put that together and you get; seeing an organ makes your brain think it came from you, and that you're probably dying

I'm one of the few who don't like that comic. Maybe because I'm "too old" or I can't relate like I might have in my teens/twenties (most of the fanbase seems to be in that range). But it just seemed dark for the sake of being dark. There was some thought provoking dialogue, but it never went anywhere. You never really got to know Nny very well. He was mentally disturbed and lonely, that's about it. I wanted to get to know him and figure out what makes him tick, but that never happened. It was just torture, crazy, torture, crazy, torture, crazy, gore, gore, gore, rinse and repeat. There wasn't much of a story. Hell, as someone who loves psychology, exploring the mind of the mentally disturbed is fascinating. But Jhonen never fleshed out his characters, and that's even true for Invader Zim. They're definitely fleshed out more than his other comic characters, but that's setting the bar low. Even though I've loved IZ from the day it was released on Nick, it's almost odd watching it when you know the guy behind it all isn't the most... agreeable human being.

I first encountered Invader Zim while walking by a Hot Topic and seeing an IZ poster in their window, and I had to stop and look at it because the art style was familiar but I couldn't place it until a couple minutes later. I realized that it was the art style of the guy behind the 90's underground comic Johnny the Homicidal Manic, and then I saw the Nickelodeon logo. At that point I had to wonder if everyone at Nickelodeon had gone completely insane, but I also knew I had to check the show out. I was not disappointed.

That's the episode where Zim makes a "best friend" but gets tired of the kid bugging him so he invites his "friend" over and replaces his eyeballs with a device that will make him become best friends with the next thing he sees, which happens to be a squirrel that attacks him. You know, for kids!

Dib was supposed to be killed at some point as well according to Jhonen's plot and be replaced by another "antagonist". It's funny though how he circumvented the anti-murder policy in this episode by replacing the nurse receptionist's brain with a toy. You know even as a kid that she died because she lost her fucking brain, but she continues functioning as if she's lobotomized.

My earliest memory of watching cartoons was watching this episode. I was about 4 years old and I remember just seeing it pop up on the tv when I was messing with the remote and it was absolutely MESMERIZING. I became absolutely obsessed with this show and still am.
