So this week I made an organic balloon garland for my sons Paw Patrol themed birthday party. This garland was super easy to make, but it did take some time. I've included all the materials I used to make this backdrop so please check it out and let me know what you think.

Honestly you can do it. This was the first time I ever made a balloon garland and as you can see in the video a lot of it was just improv. lol I was just finding whatever I could to hold that thing up because I didn't want to spend a lot of money on decor. So believe it or not this was actually my first time ever making a balloon garland and I honestly think that skill level for this is beginner. Might be a dumb question......If you were to make the balloon garland the day before the party, will it look as good as the day that you had made it??

I actually made this balloon garland the day before my son's birthday party. The photo in the thumbnail is from his actual party and as you can see the balloons were fine and did not deflate much at all. You will run into trouble if you try to make the garland 3-4 days your event. Then the balloons will deflate a lot, but i recommend making the garland the day before the party because it does take 2 hours to assemble. It doesn't deflate much in a day. Good luck! :)

Hey! Just a question, I plan to do a garland for a wedding, Is it safe for it to be done the night before the wedding? I might use a helium so it doesnt mess up!

So my experience with helium balloons is that they deflate more quickly then regular balloons do unless they are the foil helium balloons which last longer. I always make my balloon garlands 24 hours before an event and then the day of the event I just inflate a hand full of balloons and fill them in wherever I think some might have deflated. The garland in this video was made 24 hours before the event, and as you can see it did not noticeably deflate. I think its safe to make it the day before an event. I do not know how helium balloons would hold up the day before an event because I have never tried making a garland with them. Good luck!!! I hope I helped a little. lol

P Ups I was thinking the same thing with my son college acceptance party. The longest part about this balloon garland is blowing the balloons up. If your able to get to the venue early to blow the balloons up there that would be great. Packing your car for parties is hard because you already have a ton of stuff. So long story short see if you can get this done at the venue.

So sorry for the late response. Yes after I made the initial garland and hung it to the wall I started a new fish line at the base to add the remaining balloons to make the base bigger. I also started a new fish line at the end of the balloon garland to add the small 7" balloons as well. Thanks for asking. :)

I made this garland 24 hours before the actual event. The garland did take 2-3 hours to put together so I would recommend making it the night before the event so that you have time to do other things the day of the event. I purchased cheap dollar tree balloons so the next morning the balloons did deflate slightly, but as you can see from the photos and videos it wasn't very noticeable. I did notice it just because I was obsessing over every detail, but honestly it wasn't noticeable at all. If you are worried about it defaulting a little then you could purchase better quality balloons, but I didn't and it turned out fine. Thanks. :)

Can you use curling ribbon instead of fishing line?

Yes you could use ribbon instead of fishing line and I have used ribbon in the past, but the only issue with ribbon is that you can see it in certain spots. Whereas with the fishing line you cannot see it because it's clear so the garland looks prettier with that, but you can use ribbon and I have used it in the past when I didn't know about the fishing line.

The fishing line didn't get tangled because it was still attached on the roll as I was using it to tie the balloons. Also I did use one piece for the initial 9ft garland that I made then I tied that off and started another piece to add the remaining 30% of the balloons. You can use many pieces of fishing line if you like just make sure that you double knot and tie the end before you start a new one.

Hi Tiffany! :) I would not blow of the balloons weeks before the event because they will deflate. I blew up the balloons the night before my event and left the garland hanging on the wall for almost 4 days after the party. The balloons began to noticeably shrink on the fifth day. So I would say if you have to then you could make the balloon garland 2-3 days before your event, but not weeks. :) Then again I used cheaper quality balloons from the Dollar Tree. I'm not sure how more expensive balloons would hold up. Thanks.

Aqua2780 I made the garland the day before the event. Our party was Saturday evening and I assembled the garland Friday afternoon. Honestly though I let the garland hang on the wall 1 full week after the party because the balloons didn’t noticeAbly deflate and they still looked pretty. If you wanted to then you could even make it 2 days before the party God willing. Good luck.

Do you mean for the balloon garland itself? I purchased 10 bags of the ($0.99) balloons from Wal-Mart and 1 fishing line. That was around $12.00 total. You can choose to use a hand pump instead of buying a balloon pump, but if you do get the balloon pump its around $17.00. The backdrop portion with the streamers and shield that I made cost me around $12.00. The entire backdrop without the balloon pump was around $25.00.

You could make this two days before the event, but I made this the day before the event. The photos and videos you see of the backdrop are 24 hours after I had made it. I made the balloon garland and all the decor Friday at noon and my son's birthday party was Saturday at 2pm. The balloon were in good condition. As you can see they did not noticeably deflate. Only the 7 inch balloons at the very end of the garland became a little smaller so I added 4-6 balloons at the end of the garland the day of the party. That is the only change I made to the decor the day of the party. I would not recommend making the garland more then 2 days before any event because they will noticeably deflate.

How did you hang the backdrop

Do you mean the garland or the streamer backdrop portion? The garland I used ribbon and tied it around the center of the garland and then used tape to attach the ribbon to the wall and held it in place with a thumb tack. I did this for every 3 ft of the garland. For the streamer backdrop portion I used painters tape and put that on the wall first to the length that I wanted the backdrop to be. Next I just used my glue gun and added ribbon in different shades of blue along the way. I'm going to be posting a video on the streamer backdrop portion and Paw Patrol shield portion tomorrow so I'll send the link for that video to you GOD willing. Thanks

S Levy thanks so much. The paint didn’t get ruined at all. I had the garland hung up for about 3 days and no paint chipped or peeled off. Then again I used dollar tree tape so it’s not super strong so maybe that’s why it didn’t peel the paint. :) thanks

Yes, but there are a few condition. You would probably need to add more of the thumbtack tape supports. I did them every 3-4 feet on this one because it was indoor, but for an outdoor event with wind I would recommend doing this every 2 feet atleast. THanks.

So I just make all this decor for my own personal parties that I have for my kids for relatives. I'm not an event planner nor have I ever charged anyone for any of the decor that I have done. However, one of my friends was having a birthday party for her daughter recently and she called a company to inquire about a balloon garland. They quoted her $800 just for the balloon garland. I'm not sure if that is a common rate or not, but that is what she told me. Thanks! :)
