Primary substrates would undergo SN2 reaction because of less sterric hindrance for backside attack Tertiary would undergo SN1 due to carbocation stability and cannot undergo SN2 because of steric hindrance Secondary would undergo SN2 if: a. The nucleophile has negative charge like OH-,CN- b. If aprotic solvents like DMF or acetone is used c. If leaving group is conjuGate base of weak acid like F- SN1 if a. Nucleophile is neutral b.
