This video is about spreading sulfur - we got a different plow and finishing up seeding oats.
Hi my name is Paul & I’m Organic Dairy Farmer South Dakota. I farm with my younger brother & we milk 50 cows. We are a 4th generation family farm that farms 400 acres in which we raise corn, oats, alfalfa, soybeans plus we do rotational grazing with our milk cows.
We have been a certified organic dairy since November of 2006 & we take a lot of pride in what we do & strive to produce the highest quality products that we can.
I hope I can teach you a little bit of something about organic farming also in process maybe have a little fun along the way. Don’t be afraid to think outside they box!

When something gets seeded, hay baled up, or crops harvested one feels like that something was accomplished. Far from being done with planting yet, but at least progress is made.

We spend all winter getting ready for planting, than all summer getting ready for harvest. A lot of stress for less and less reward it feels like. If it were not for the love of farming, I would have packed up long ago! Glad to see you are in the field, its been absolutely too wet to do anything for us. Sweet plow! Ecited to see the 720 and Ford on it! I've pulled a 4-14 deere plow with the Major, I prefer my 3-14 Ford mounted plow though. Next on my List is a 3-16's Oliver plow for my 770.

Yeah as they say all work and no pay makes a farmer. It is really something that gets in your blood that's for sure. Thanks for watching Bill!

Sure has been a cold rainy spring... Snowy even. Glad to hear you have oats in the ground. In north central Wisconsin, it was 45° and then all of a sudden it was 90° for a few days. Surreal weather.

I have a plow exactly like that one. I pull it with my 4020 in 5th gear in any conditions. If you try it in a field with a lot of residue, you will want to find a set of coulters and trash boards for it. Five mph and it will lay the soil over smooth.

I think we have a set of coulters in one of our sheds that will work on it. When I get some time I plan to see if they'll work.

The storm passed through but didn’t really do any damage at our farm. Some people further west in our County weren’t so lucky.

Paul got a question for your above your being organic!? On your hay fields what do you use for fertilizer on them if you do fertilizer them!?
@organicpaulguy
@organicpaulguy 2 жыл бұрын
Yes we fertilize our hay fields. We use a 3 way mix of humates, potassium sulfate and potash. There are some organic foliar sprays that you can get that will help boost your brix levels in the hay and some to give ur hay a nitrogen boosts. If you’ve got the money they’ve got organic products to put on your hay or other crops.

Actually it is from the mid 1960's. I though it was older then that but after doing some research about it that is what I found out.
