Hello Teshna, I just did the same thing to my closet. I did get overwhelmed, so I put it on pause. It's been about 2 days. I'm not sure if I'm ready to continue the process right now. Excellent video tfs ❤

Thank you so much! ❤️ Oh, I totally understand-decluttering can definitely feel overwhelming at times! I had to take several breaks! You’ve already made a start, so that’s a win in itself! 💪

I’m going to offer a different perspective to think over when you might be stuck and unable to get rid of pieces. This is to look at things from a financial standpoint, but using your rent or mortgage payment and how many square feet you have, instead of cost of clothes. Look at it like this…for every inch of your space that is housing unworn clothing you are in effect throwing away money because you are paying for space that could be used more efficiently. I can’t remember who I’m stealing the idea from…. But this logic really hit home for me. Why pay X $ for X amount of space, but not be able to fully benefit from that space? .If your home and closets are full of things you are not regularly using, then you have turned your space basically into nothing more than a rental storage unit/building, only you’re living in it instead of it being somewhere else. Maybe this will make sense to someone else and be helpful.

Thank you so much for sharing this perspective-it’s the first time I’ve heard it, and it’s honestly so eye-opening! 🙌 It’s definitely making me reevaluate how I think about a lot of the things I’ve stored away but don’t wear. That said, I know I still have to be practical because, in the past, I’ve decluttered things I later regretted. But thinking about it in terms of rent or mortgage payments and essentially “wasting money” on unused space is giving me a whole new way to approach it. Such a helpful way to look at it-thank you! 😊

I know what you mean about regret over discarded clothes. I still miss some pieces. 2 wool blazers specifically. 🤦🏻♀️ I don’t at all have a “traditional” capsule wardrobe. But my method works for me. I go through all of my clothes at least once a year. If I have not worn something in that time span I get rid of it. Since I’m retired I don’t have to have a professional wardrobe any longer…..this helped thin out my closet a lot when I did it yrs ago. I also now wear pieces I would have “saved” for a special occasion. Even in a 1 bedroom apt all of my clothes, for all of the seasons, fits comfortably in 2 smallish closets and a dresser and large chest of drawers. One of the closets even has a lot of extra space, so I’m rethinking that. The large chest is packed to the max. I’m planning on thinning it out soon. I do keep all of my Christmas items in 1 large plastic tub, stored under my bed since those pieces are worn least. I might possibly have too many shoes….but I don’t think so. (I’m just in denial) I’m no financial genius, but it just isn’t logical to me to keep and store unused clothes…..or anything else for that matter. I’m not at a minimalist level but I only keep things/clothes that I actually use/wear on a regular basis. Except for my blender. I hang onto it to sometimes make mixed drinks for myself on my birthday. But that may go also soon. 🤷🏻♀️ I want to wish you a very happy holiday season. I don’t know if you celebrate Christmas so I didn’t want to put Happy Christmas. I wish for you good health, a peaceful mind and spirit, and loving family and friends.

I completely relate to that feeling of regret over discarded clothes-it's so hard when you let go of something you later miss. It sounds like you’ve really found a system that works for you, and I love how intentional you are with your wardrobe, especially keeping pieces you actually wear and enjoy. I also agree with wearing things instead of “saving” them for special occasions-it’s such a great mindset shift! I had to laugh at the blender mention-sometimes we hold on to those just in case items! 😄 And I’m totally with you on shoes-if they bring joy, then they’re justified, right? I do celebrate christmas 🎄 🤶 Wishing you a wonderful holiday season too, and thank you for your kind wishes.
