I just installed it, it's awesome! I sync it by NAS, with NAS I can sync it with my all cloud storages. that would be wonderful if they have built-in cloud storage photo management function. hope they will develop it.

What if you have Eagle on your office PC and you want to work from your laptop in another location? Do you have access to these files? Are they synchronized in the cloud?

Great review! The app looks great. One big concern I have, is that you need to drag files into the Eagle library, which means that you have 2 places where the files live, inside and outside the app. This takes a looooot of storage space. I only want my images to be in one place. Any solutions to this?
@digilocker2 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, so annoyed by this as Ive used the app all morning and love it, but I dont want to structure entire hard drives around it. If it referenced the original files like Bridge does or something similar it would be perfect, but I pull in data from folders that use GIT or cloud folders this is going to get very messy very quickly
@ValentinKossenko2 жыл бұрын
I had the same concerns at first but now completely made the switch to Eagle. If you didn't already know, there's an auto import feature, which lets you use Eagle in a more native way by allowing you to just drop files into a specific folder that imports the data and then automatically deletes everything for you. That way, you only have to import all your previous assets into Eagle once and can then use it as your main file manager. To save on storage, I have deleted all the previous files after importing them into Eagle. Since you can always export all the files and folders in their previous structure, this shouldn't be an issue if you ever want to return to the Explorer or Finder for some reason. Eagle might not be the perfect tool for every case (things like web development or coding in general might be problematic due to Eagle's unique folder structure) but for pretty much everyone else, Eagle is absolutely awesome and I don't even wanna look back at the Explorer. If you want to find out more about this auto import feature, I have created an entire overview of the Eagle App and the part about that feature starts at around 6:03 in this video right here kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5_Mp4uchLmLjtk. Hope that helps!

This is something you won't even think about after using it for a while. Personally i think it's better to have everything inside a library folder so you know where you have it and can just put it in dropbox for backup and sync across devices. I also like that I don't need to have the files anywhere else but in this app. Just import from the web and you're done. This app is sooo good at organizing my reference and inspiration files. I used it every day.
@ValentinKossenko2 жыл бұрын
@@waxmaster-c I absolutely agree here. As a video editor I also like the fact that I don't have to worry about offline files ever again. I can move files around inside of the library but their physical location stays the same, which is just awesome.

@@ValentinKossenko Suppose I am importing all the images from my SSD and Eagle is saving the library in the same SSD in it's own structure. Now imagine, I am carrying that SSD in a computer that doesn't have Eagle app, so will I be able to find the image I am looking for?

I love this app, except for one major problem, when I scan a large group of photos or elements, it stores DUPLICATES of everything in a .library file, is there any way to prevent duplication of files? I can't have terabytes of .library files, I would essential double the space required on my HD, this makes NO sense.
@envatotuts2 ай бұрын
Hi! I understand your frustration with the duplicate files issue. To prevent Eagle from creating duplicates, you can import your assets as references instead of copying them into the library. When adding files, choose the "Add by Reference" option, which will link to the original files without duplicating them. This way, Eagle will organize your assets without taking up extra disk space. Hope this helps, cheers!

This product both elates and scares me. It seems to be an answer to a common problem many of us have; scares me because of the possibility that it could disappear along with all the stored files without warning (as our host pointed out happened to him with another service). Is there not a means of downloading the files/program for archival purposes?
@angelwang66463 жыл бұрын
I've used Eagle for a long time now, my files never disappeared before. Its database (Library) stores in your own computer local drive! Overall it's an awesome product for everyday use! highly recommend
@ValentinKossenko2 жыл бұрын
Since files inside of your Eagle library aren't saved differently from what you have used previously, this shouldn't be an issue. The files themselves aren't modified by Eagle, they're just put in a separate folder together with a thumbnail and metadata file inside of your local file system. This is a huge benefit if you compare it to other online cloud solutions. You can however still use Eagle with your own cloud, NAS, etc. without any problems.
@waxmaster-c2 жыл бұрын
You choose where the library folder is. As long as you don't delete the library it's all good. How will it disappear by itself? I keep my library folder in Dropbox so it's synced on multiple devices and backed up.

i don't know ..to use it eagle ask you to create a library somewhere .it creates an eagle file ( backup ) when i drag or import a folders of photos from my computer into eagle ..it duplicates all my photos inside that back up library files ..so it takes some space on your hard drive ..maybe i tried it wrongly
@ValentinKossenko2 жыл бұрын
When I first tried out the Eagle App, I almost immediately quit using it again due to this duplicating process - I'm glad I gave it another chance though. One great thing about Eagle is that you can use something called auto import, which lets you create a folder for Eagle, which you can then use to import files without actually leaving them in your explorer. After files are put in that folder, they are imported into the Eagle library but are deleted from that folder in the Explorer. That way, there aren't any duplicates on your system. If you have a big collection of media assets, you would of course still have to import them all into Eagle first. But since you can always just export everything like it was before into your Explorer again, I would suggest to just go ahead and delete all the previous files from your Explorer after importing them into Eagle. That way you can benefit from all the great features that Eagle offers and don't have to worry about double storage use. If you're interested in the auto import feature, you can watch this video right here kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5_Mp4uchLmLjtk at around 6:03, where I go into the details of how that feature works and how it can be helpful to use Eagle in a more native way together with the Explorer. Hope that clears things up a little!

I just drag files from the web without thinking about saving them anywhere else. What's good about it is that I have the library folder inside my dropbox so it's updated on multiple devices. This app is amazing for gathering and organising inspiration and reference files.

Not only is it dumping into their container, leaving me with it in 2 places, I also cannot access them from my iPad. That is what I need - on the Mac and on the iPad. The EagleFiler app does "reference" for files, but it is all text and I cannot easily search visually. But I can access them everywhere. Eagle is what I want, except the no iPad access thing. :(

I have an external hard drive organized with my assets... I don't know if this app would be useful for me, as I don't want to add more content to my computers memory....
@envatotuts3 жыл бұрын
Using an external hard drive is supported (see here: en.eagle.cool/category/161-category ) But the creators say the best way to experience Eagle's high performance is to store everything locally, on your computer (I used to store my assets on both external and cloud service, and it’s not quick as when things are on my computer ^Ian). Hope that helps!
@Vincer3 жыл бұрын
i use it with external hard drives (and in the computer, multiple libraries really). Ive been converting my folders all into eagle. 0 issues and 0 regrets. But my external drives are on par with my harddrive (not the fastest, not slow). Idk how a huge library would perform on a slow harddrive- my guess it will work just fine, only it will take longer to load and maybe take a bit longer to show thumbnails when scrolling too fast.
@ValentinKossenko2 жыл бұрын
So far, Eagle seems to perform really well for me, even with a library of over 100.000 different files. I am using an internal HDD though. An SSD might be even faster, but since my library is a couple of TB's big and SSD's are still a lot more expensive, this isn't really an option for me. One thing I noticed though is that Eagle is just so much faster than Explorer when searching or viewing files, even on an HDD. I'm so glad I found this and think that the software is highly underrated and overlooked because it isn't working in the same way as the regular file browsers like Windows Explorer or macOS Finder because you have to import all your files first.

I didn't find interesting the fact of storing the images inside a catalog file. If for some reason the file becomes corrupted, everything is lost apart from the fact that everything is duplicated. For me this sucks and other apps can't use the same folder structure.
