We took over the dining room and turned it into her homeschool area. I love being able to go back and forth from the table to the couch for reading and snuggles. The biggest lesson I learned is that I don't have to have all those teacher props pasted on the wall. And I can use cabinets in other parts of the house to organize. Once I let go from needing a dedicated room the overwhelming anxiety I had went away! BTW thank you for always keeping it real on this channel! The flexibility you showed us was such a valuable teaching moment for me!

We are all just doing our best. One of the hardest things to do is to let go of what we think this experience should be. I learn this lesson constantly.

I'm trying to learn it! Working on organizing everything as we speak! It will all be OK in the end!

It will be better than ok, it will be exactly what you and your kids need to thrive.

We live in an RV and have very limited space so we only keep our what we are currently working resources on hand in magazine holders from dollar tree then everything else is kept in a tote under the RV and we rotate as we need normally monthly for science since his science is unit based and weekly to month for books because he has a lot of literature based subjects and if it's possible to just do something in a notebook instead of a workbook or to print it and keep it in a binder we go that route for space

I’m glad you went ahead and did school the first day because a good start to the year but remember that homeschooling means flexibility. You could have taken your free day on Monday and then did regular school on Friday. I love my rolling cart. It holds all our day to day needs. I restock it weekly.

I know that but I just really wanted to get started. It wasn't a full schedule perfect start but we started! Honestly, it has been pretty smooth sailing since that first morning so far.

We are homeschooling in our dining room. We could've done it in our finished basement, but I like the natural light upstairs and not feeling tucked away.. We have a larger opening into the living room, but it isn't open concept. We are using a cheap book shelf from target for homeschool stuff. I need to get some holders for the different subjects so they are groups. We also have a 3 tiered cart and we use that for art supplies. I also have a hutch with fine China, but we use the pull out draw below for some misc game and school storage.

Sounds great! Our home was building pre-open concept and I'm not sad about having a segregated kitchen.

We are starting next week, we are also packing to move 😬 so I’ve got the first half of the school year organized and stored in a travel tote, the second half and all our art supplies are packed away already. But after we move we’ll have a whole new space to organize and homeschool in 😆

I’m excited to start kindergarten with my daughter. However, my in-laws are not on board. They think she needs to be around other kids. Do you have anyone in your life that disagrees with your choice to homeschool? If so, how do you deal with it?
@MakingEverydayMagic3 жыл бұрын
Honestly, much less so now but we are 5 years into our journey and the results truly speak for themselves. However, I still get some pretty crappy opinions thrown my way. I have a whole video dedicated to this topic! 🤣 kzbin.info/www/bejne/npuUh35pfLBnfKs

Thanks! I’ll check that video out now. Also, do your daughters or did they ever mention going to an actual school?
@MakingEverydayMagic3 жыл бұрын
Yes, my oldest did many times. My girls went to an MDO play based program 2 days a week while I went to work. She was convinced that school would be just like that and it took her a long time to realize the differences. Now, she understands and is thankful she does not have to go like some of her friends.

I'm in the same boat with you. Both my in-laws and my own family are against homeschooling. I simply had to flip the narrative in my head: they care so much about my child to have an opinion. Thank you for caring. At the end of the day it is our decision. Good luck on your journey!
