Every weekend I have to clean up my studio from a busy week of painting and working on different projects for my watercolour classes so the paint with me series is all about an active watercolour studio and how I get that organized. I also talk about paint and new arrivals, different kinds of pallets and watercolour brushes. So if you’re into all of those fun little details that happen within the daily activities of a professional, watercolour studio. You want to subscribe to this playlist and tune in for this series.

Dear Jacqueline, I have a few ideas for you that you could do; 1) use post it notes, on each palette with the intention or task! (Think it, touch it once, write it down, stick it on for later!) eg I write on mine, something like... "re-swatch these" or "rehome" or take out yuck and bleh, (put yuck in a palette called yuck, and label it!) or I make a palette with a name; Autumn, Winter or "What to have on a cold snowy night." "Sea, sky, sand and shells" 2) You have a storage issue. A set of wide drawers or a small chest of drawers. eg Ikea, and put it under your table. House each drawer with a name of what is inside. Perhaps a granulating drawer? I have one in each spot of my chest of drawers. I went to an op shop and got ones that have small height drawers but are wide, so all of them fit in there, single layer. So I can see my task post it notes, without moving anything! I just open the drawer and look at them all at once. I have a drawer of perfection, and another drawer for "needs work" 3)Go back to the swatch book Etchr A4 landscape in white linen. New sets go in here. 4)Another sketchbook with a different purpose. Every sketchbook has it's own purpose/theme. Just like your gorgeous granulating tonal value studies. I know what you want, but can't have! I see your dilemna. You want to see all your colour choices on your wall, but you also want some spots for new spots. So call it the "new spot." Swatch three times, on palette, in book to swatch and play with it, and on the wall! Your struggle seems to be; If it is both new and yellow say, then you don't much like it as it can't fit with yellows, no room, right? So, you are back to "brands, new stuff, and yellow at the bottom on the wall." You can't have it both ways, hun! Or alternatively you cut swatches up, and colour code your wall in columns. And stick them down with blue tack. (Poster putty) Each column is a colour, mixed brands. So, you have room at the bottom for new colours! If I did a wall for you, I would clear your desk, so you can see as much of the wall as possible! It will look fantastic! See youtuber Chloe who did this with her pantone colours across the wall. You will have them all the same size, going down, new at the bottom of each colour column. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jordaGdug8p4qaM So, I would create a wall of colour according to brand! You don't have to do it again, I do this kind of with my tubes. They all lie very flat, labels up in a kind of large tray. I have sections in the tray with more trays, and they are in colour order....each with their own spot. I also do this with my washi tape so I can see each one, without rummaging. Give yourself some more desk space by getting a trolley cart that was used for tea, or alcohol. Put a large tray into it. Add your brushes and other things that are there now so it is behind you or beside you, so all flat horizontal space is now your working and thinking area. You could staple your additional brand swatches to your sheets. What I liked from you to me; The way you house your tubes of super granulating by Schmincke, with the cute little swatch cards. The struggle is real. This was very authentic, and we all do it. Take a photo of this and other comments, so when you get stuck all these ideas are there on your phone. I had a lot of small palettes with six colours from handmades, so then it got a bit fiddly looking. I had done the swatches in these cute 100 percent cotton handmade books. I haven't swatched my entire collection, now I know why! I think the artwork sketchbook, with the mod podge is a huge selling idea for you to consider, I would definitely buy one with that gorgeous design! Your sketchbook making is terrific! I also think you could sell each blank layout for the palettes, and get passive income from a download out to us! What about granulating palette with some quins? See Irit's channel, her red palette is custom fit for all shapes, both half, full pans, odd shapes and wells for tubes. Thanks for keeping it real. Labeling is your first step towards closer to perfection. Perfection is but a curse! I also take out colours, give some away to people overseas, or for art therapy. I also cut out some colours, and redo, just that swatch and glue or washi tape the new colour back in, then sandwich it between another backing board, so I don't redo it all the time..... I guarantee there are colours you don't like! In kindred spirit. I hear you loud and clear hun. Eliza Most Beautiful Day is Today! Monday 10th of July 2023; 11:37pm Dulwich Hill, Sydney Australia

I loved the granulating colors. Would you say the tubes are better for the class you are doing or the full pans?
@JacquelineJax

The best price is definitely the tubes as each tube fills a lot of pans so you never really run out of paint and the cost per pan is so cheap. I also love working from tubes as they are juicy and more flexible. Then I pour a pan for my palette.
