Its interesting how 30% of the Cuban working population now works in cooperative businesses. In fact those cooperatives are run by the workers. So instead of having lots of private businesses like in the US, Cuba decided to go a different direction and I think it is working well for Cuba.

Cooperative is the only way to survive especially in a nation that is being Isolated and Embargoed. If they compete each other, they will fall together.

Chemically-grown produce should be more expensive because you're using chemicals, another resource. But in the US the chemicals are subsidized so that makes "conventional" chemical farming cheaper, which is convoluted and idiotic. Thank you Cuba. I bet you will be bringing up a healthier population than we will. You obviously care about your children's future. Please Cuba, don't get suckered into going chemical, now that the US is talking to you. Be very wary of the chemical companies. You did it organically, and you have inspired the world.

It's nice to see people doing such wonderful things. Small scale organic farming like this can make the world a better place, not "western" style large scale farming.

Yes. I have been growing organically for 14 years here in the U.S., once you get the first year going the expenses really decrease and you can make your garden self-sufficient. I can grow hundreds of pounds of organic food WAYY cheaper than what chemical food cost at the supermarket.

Cuba can be a destination of healthcare for US citizens. Instead of costly and profit driven bloodsucking hospitals of US, Cuba doctors and hospitals can do far better treatment at a cheaper cost as they are doing for their own citizens. Though I should say that they shouldn't be that generous for people who were able to pay more, because it's a matter of economy and the foreign currency earned can improve the countries health overall.

Cuba must continue to farm organically. This is important to the progress of the country. Yes, organic food should be cheaper worldwide, because no chemicals are used, Here in South Africa, we pay 3 x the price for organic food. This has to stop. Our government, however, has no will to enforce organic farming, and in that way bring prices down. We have to outlaw the importation or manufacture of chemicals in South Africa. Our land is being contaminated. This is not rocket science. South Africa used to produce the most nutritious beautiful food in abundance during the years of isolation. Now that we are able to export almost all the agricultural produce to the world, we have since the late 80's started going the US way by using harmful chemicals, feeding livestock GMO feed and it's all about the bottom-line and not about the quality. It is a disgrace that the local market gets the worst agricultural produce and the best, albeit GMO'd, gets exported. I urge every South African to boycott GMO produce and insist on organic food, Plant gardens on your plot of land, no matter how small. If every one of us plants organic food just to become self-sufficient, for our households, then we will be sending a serious message to government and farmers. 54million people must revolutionise the health system this way.

I’ve had varying luck growing food in my garden at home. I always do well with Potatoes, peas and tomatoes because I’ve got a hedge that I can cut and dig the cuttings into the ground to condition the soil and improve it but then I don’t have too much luck with chillies in the U.K. so this year I’m going to grow chillies in old pot noodle tubs as seedlings until they’re more established.

I’m making my own business there it’s very cheap to start a business in Cuba as long as you know what kind of business to make!

Cubans may be poorer than many nations, but they are damned sight happier than most of us. Here in the UK we have few communities left :( capitalism has smashed everyone down into "individualism" and we are destroying the earth to ensure that continues.

I think the cooperative system works well for Cubans. They don't have any privately owned businesses but cooperatives seem to be working better
@wilsonator2008
@wilsonator2008 4 жыл бұрын
I agree, Cuba was dealt with a very bad hand in the early 1990’s when the Soviet Union collapsed so they basically had to adapt their current systems quickly just to survive and it has worked. Larger economies like the US, the UK and European economies could embrace some of these growing methods to improve food supplies.

@FernandoSanchez-ov3ji
@FernandoSanchez-ov3ji 6 жыл бұрын
Eric Oshiro yeah capitalism will soon collapse! If the levels keep doing how they have done so far the use of oil will be growing exponentially in about 20-30 years there will no oil in earth and don’t forget that America is 99%dependent on oil so it won’t survive without oil! After America falls every little capitalist country will eventually fall! It will be the end of capitalism and the re-born of Communism-Socialism! If you look closely those few last socialist countries are poor because of the sanctions that the U.S has against them like Cuba and many others!

@@FernandoSanchez-ov3ji The US is not really capitalist at this point. It is more of an oligarchy. Major corporations have way too much power over our government and our lives.
@dietrevich

Capitalism can't fail because it's the natural system of how a market works. You mean the government is failing, yes! Human greed is failing us, yes! Laws that allow corporations to be above the people, are failing us, yes! Capitalism, not so much.. as long as there is a market that is not manipulated directly by man Capitalism will naturally form, it's not a man made creation , it's a system that appears by the interaction of people exchanging goods and or services.
@juanlcpx
@juanlcpx 3 жыл бұрын
@@dietrevich when you say that market (within exchange of products) is inherent of capitalism, you also say that you don't know anything about any other economic system such as socialism. Any of those systems have exchange of products. And, just saying, capitalism isn't natural at all.
@dietrevich
@dietrevich 3 жыл бұрын
@@juanlcpx capitalism really is not a creation but an observation of how a system works. Socialism, communism and modern capitalism try to manipulate something that naturally happens c each in a different direction, and that's exactly how problems arise. When you try to control and impose rules on that are part of the market resource allocation.

Communism and an organic coop are two different things. Then again it also depends on your level of being spoiled to what you call comfort. Most Americans are far too detached from reality that anything is misery to them.
